No. 4/4 Quinnipiac Women's Ice Hockey Defeats Boston University, 6-1

HAMDEN, Connecticut – Nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey defeated Boston University, 6-1, in a non-conference match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats skated to their 20th win of the year and extended their program record unbeaten streak to 18 games in front of more-than 1,000 elementary and middle school children as part of TD Bank Sports Center's "Kids Day" Game.
Quinnipiac improves to 20-1-4 (10-1-3 ECAC Hockey) on the season with their first ever victory over Boston University, who fell to 14-9-2 (11-4-2 WHEA) in the loss. The Bobcats also improve to 4-0-0 on the season when they score at least six goals in a game.
Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) recorded her 21st and 22nd goals of the season as well as her 17th assist for 39 points this season, extending her point streak to four games. The contest was Cianfarano's 14th multiple-point game of the season and fifth multiple-goal game as she led the Bobcats in scoring. Overall, Cianfarano has five three-point games this season and seven in her career.
Kristen Tamberg (North Toronto, Ontario) matched Cianfarano with her first career three-point game as she netted one goal and assisted two more. With two goals and 12 assists now on the season, Tamberg set a new career-high for points in a single-season with 14 while tying her career-high of two goals in a season. Tamberg has four multiple-point games this season.
Meghan Turner (Bedford, New Hampshire) scored her seventh goal of the season on Wednesday for the Bobcats, her fourth straight game with a point and has scored a goal in three of the past four games. Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) scored her ninth goal of the season and 38th of her career as she looks to become the fourth Bobcat to score 40 goals in a career. Connery's goal also extended her point streak to four games. Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) scored the final goal of the game for the Bobcats for her 11th goal of the season and 25th point of the year.
Including Cianfarano and Tamberg, eight Bobcats recorded assists on the game. Lindsey West (Ajax, Ontario) recorded her second career two-assist and two-point game to tie Tamberg for the game lead. Nicole Brown (Oshawa, Ontario) picked up an assist Wednesday to extend her point streak to four games. With the assist, Brown set a new single-season career-high with 16 points and tied her single-season career-high of 12 assists. Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) also picked up her 18th assist of the season as she continues to lead the Bobcats in assists.
Three more Bobcats picked up assists in the game as Miranda Lantz (Mildmay, Ontario) tallied her fourth of the season, and Emma Greco (Burlington, Ontario) and Danielle Marmer (Dorset, Vermont) each picked up their second assists of the year.
Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) became the third goaltender in the country to win 20 games this season, tying Wisconsin's Ann-Renee Desbiens and Boston College's Katie Burt for the most wins in the nation at 20. Rossman made 14 saves in the contest.
Quinnipiac scored a pair of power play goals to give the Bobcats four straight games with a power play goal, scoring six over that stretch. The Bobcats were 2 for 3 on the man advantage on Wednesday while the Terriers were 1 for 3.
Turner got the scoring started with 6:59 to play in the first period to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Lantz played the puck up the right boards to Brown who found Turner with a pass near the corner. Turner backhanded a pass to Brown in the face-off circle where her shot was saved by Boston University goaltender Erin O'Neil but the rebound bounced right to Turner crashing the net where she banged home the goal past O'Neil's glove.
Connery doubled the Bobcats' lead to 2-0 just 46 seconds later on her tally. After winning the face-off in the left circle, Cianfarano chased down her own win in the corner before nudging a pass on the end boards to Woods behind the goal. Woods found Connery all alone in the slot where she one-timed a rocket high past O'Neil's glove side for the goal.
The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead with just eight seconds remaining in the first period on Tamberg's second power play goal of the season. After cycling the puck around the offensive zone with advantage, Tamberg pass the puck back to Greco at the left point before Greco hit Tamberg back with the return pass. Tamberg stepped into the shot where she wristed it past a Connery screen past O'Neil's glove for another Bobcat goal.
Cianfarano picked up the second period right where the Bobcats left off when she made it 4-0 Quinnipiac just 1:31 into the period. Rossman stopped the puck behind her own goal where she left it for West, who touched it to Tamberg to start the offensive rush. Tamberg fed Rossman with a pass from the defensive zone to the red line. Cianfarano skated with speed along the right boards before cutting through the face-off circle, stopping and deking out O'Neil for the highlight reel goal.
Boston University got one goal back 4:32 into the second period on Jordan Juron's fourth tally of the season. Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga worked the puck to Rebecca Leslie who skated the puck through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone. She lost control of the puck but it went right to Juron in the slot where she swiped the goal home in one motion.
Cianfarano regained the four-goal lead for the Bobcats 1:39 later to make it 5-1 on her second tally of the game. West won a battle in the corner before she flipped the puck out of the defensive zone. Cianfarano gathered the puck in the neutral zone where she skated in one-on-one with O'Neil, making a swift motion to bring the puck from her forehand to her backhand and popping it just over O'Neil's pad and glove.
Samoskevich wrapped up the scoring for the Bobcats with just 1:26 to play in the third period to give the Bobcats their 6-1 final. Tamberg played the puck to Marmer who skated the puck into the neutral zone before touching it up to Samoskevich across the center-ice logo. Samoskevich skated with speed, splitting the Terriers' defense before going to her forehand and wrist a shot past O'Neil's blocker for the goal.
The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team have this weekend off before returning to action on Friday, Jan. 29 where they will travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts to face the Harvard Crimson (10-6-1, 7-5-1 ECAC Hockey) at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center at 3 P.M. with the game broadcasted on NESN. Quinnipiac will then travel to Hanover, New Hampshire to take on the Dartmouth Big Green (4-12-3, 4-6-3 ECAC Hockey) at Thompson Arena on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 3 P.M.
