Early Bird Gets the Worm
The nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team has its first and only mid-week game of the season Wednesday morning when they host the Boston University Terriers at High Point Solutions Arena for its first annual "Kid's Day Game" with puck drop scheduled for 11 A.M. against their Hockey East opponent.
All-Time Against Boston University
The Bobcats and Terriers have faced off just five times in their program's histories dating back to their first ever meeting on Oct. 11, 2005 when the two teams skated to a 2-2 tie. Overall, the Bobcats are winless against the Terriers going 0-4-1 in the five meetings. Since that tie, Quinnipiac has lost four straight games to Boston University, including last season's 4-1 defeat at Walter Brown Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. Nicole Kosta scored the Bobcats' lone goal in the third period with Kristen Tamberg and Alicia Barry.
Scouting the Terriers
This season, Boston University comes in with a 14-8-2 record and 11-4-2 mark in Hockey East play. The Terriers are coming off a 1-0-1 weekend against the Vermont Catamounts, finishing off the series with a 6-2 win in Burlington. The Terriers have been a strong offensive team this season, netting 87 goals at 3.59 goals per game. Victoria Bach leads the Terriers with 14 goals on the season, in addition to 14 assists for 28 points, one of five different Terriers to score 10 or more goals this season. Rebecca Leslie leads all players on the team with 30 points after dishing out a team-high 24 assists for the Terriers. Sarah Lefort has 10 goals and 16 assists while Rebecca Russo has 10 goals and 13 assists. Freshman Sammy Davis is second on the team in goals with 11 to go along with nine assists. Maddie Elia is the final Terrier to net 10 goals this season. Alexis Crossley is the top scoring defenseman for the Terriers with two goals and eight assists for 10 points, with four of the defenseman all recording at least 10 points. Defense and goaltending has been an issue for Boston University this season as the team has allowed 73 goals in 24 games. Erin O'Neil is the starting goaltender for the Terriers, surpassing Victoria Hanson. O'Neil is 9-3-2 on the season with one shutout to accompany a 2.80 GAA and .905 save percentage. Boston University's power play has been pretty strong, scoring 17 goals in 84 chances for 20.2 percent. The penalty kill has left a little to be desired, coming into Wednesday at 82.2 percent, killing 74 of the 90 penalties committed.

Bobcats in the Polls
For the 15th consecutive week this season, the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team was ranked in the top 10 of the USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll and last week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, ranking fourth for a program record sixth consecutive week. The Bobcats have been ranked in the top 10 of the USCHO.com Poll for 60 consecutive weeks. This week, Quinnipiac is one of two schools in the country to have both its men's and women's ice hockey teams ranked in the top five of both polls, joined by Boston College who's men's team is ranked No. 4 in the USCHO poll and the women's team is No. 1.
Bobcats in the Pairwise
The Bobcats continued to hang out as one of the top teams in the country as they maintained the No. 4 spot in the PairWise Rankings, trailing only Boston College, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Bobcats are the highest ranked ECAC Hockey team followed by Clarkson (No. 5), Princeton (No. 7), Colgate (No. 9), Harvard (No. 11), Cornell (T-No. 12), and St. Lawrence (T-No. 12). The USCHO.com Pairwise Ranking attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I women's hockey tournament.
Another Record Bites the Dust
Quinnipiac women's ice hockey has been rewriting its record books over the past two seasons, and with a pair of wins over Robert Morris this past weekend, the Bobcats set a the longest unbeaten streak in program history at 17 games, breaking last year's mark of 16 games. The Bobcats have currently not lost since Oct. 31, 2015. Goaltender Sydney Rossman has been in goal for all 17 games, breaking the record for unbeaten streak by a goalie, held by Chelsea Laden at 15 straight.
The View From Above
The Bobcats continue to shine as one of the top defensive teams in country, ranking in the top three of the country in numerous categories. The Bobcats are tied with Wisconsin for the most shutouts in the country with 11, while the Bobcats' 0.90 GAA is second only to Wisconsin's 0.62. Quinnipiac has also allowed the second fewest goals in the country, yielding just 22 compared to Wisconsin's 15. In terms of shots on goal, the Bobcats have allowed the third fewest shots on goal at 423 and third fewest shots on goal per game at 17.62. Quinnipiac only trails Wisconsin and Minnesota in each of those categories.
Best in the League
Quinnipiac continues to enjoy the view from the top of the ECAC Hockey standings, leading the way with 23 points and lead second place Princeton by a full two wins. Offensively, the Bobcats have the second best offensive behind Clarkson while the Bobcats defense is the top defense in the conference.
TTYL
Taylar Cianfarano is having a season to remember for the Bobcats, as she continues to climb up the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey record books. Just one weekend after setting the program record for goals scored by a sophomore, Cianfarano scored her 20th goal of the season, just the fourth 20-goal season in program history. Cianfarano joins Kelly Babstock (2010-11 and 2012-13) and Shiann Darkangelo (2013-14) as the only Bobcats to achieve the feat. Cianfarano's 36 points are the seventh most in a single season in program history, just four points shy of recording the sixth 40-point season in program history. Cianfarano's three-point weekend extended her point streak to three games.
Shutout and Dance
With her 11th shutout of the season, Sydney Rossman moved back into a tie for the most shutouts in the country with Wisconsin's Ann-Renee Desbiens. Rossman has been having a season to remember as her 19 wins are tied for the second most in the country. She is also among the tops in the nation with the second lowest GAA at 0.90 and fourth-highest save percentage at .948. Rossman leads ECAC Hockey in each of those categories, while allowing the second fewest total goals of 22, just one more than Harvard's Emerance Maschmeyer who has played 12 fewer games.
Climbing the Ranks
Nicole Connery scored one goal and one assist this past weekend to extend her point streak to three games and bring herself two points closer to the 100-career point mark as she ended the weekend at 87 career points. Connery picked up an assist against Robert Morris in the first game of the weekend for her 50th career assist, the fifth player in program history to record 50 assists, joining Kelly Babstock, Nicole Kosta, Erica Uden Johansson and Regan Boulton on the all-time list. Connery is just three goals away from recording 40 career goals, and she would be the third player to achieve the feat joining Babstock and Uden Johansson.
Brown…Nicole Brown
Another player reached a career-high this weekend as Nicole Brown tied her single-season career-high for points with 15 points on the season after recording three assists against Robert Morris. Brown has four goals and 11 assist this season, just two goals shy of tying her career-high for goals in a year and one assist away from tying her career-high for goals in a season. Brown tied for the Bobcats lead with three points over the weekend and led the team in assists with three to extend her point streak to three games.
Turning the Page
Meghan Turner also set a new career-high this past weekend for the Bobcats after recording her sixth goal of the season and extended her point streak to three games. Turner's previous career-high for goals in a season was five before scoring the game-winning goal on Friday night. Turner has two goals in the past three games for the Bobcats. With one assist, Turner now has three this season.
Kosta's the Word
Nicole Kosta has been on nice roll for the Bobcats, recording points in six of the last eight games, including three goals as she approaches 40 in her career. Kosta is two goals away from 40 goals, where she would be the fourth player in program history to reach that plateau, joining Babstock, Elyse Cole and Uden Johansson. If she reaches the mark, Kosta would be the fourth player in program history to record 40 goals and 40 assists in her career, joining Babstock and Uden Johansson, if she can do it before Connery.
The Race for 40
Kosta (38 goals), Connery (37 goals), and Cianfarano (37 goals) are all in the hunt to become the next member of the 40-goal club. Babstock (95 goals), Cole (43 goals) and Uden Johansson (42 goals) are the only players ahead of the current trio, giving those three a chance to surpass Cole for second on the all-time list by the end of the season.
Western Union
Lindsey West has had great stretch of late, scoring all three of her four goals over the past six games including her last two goals coming on the power play. West is just one goal shy of tying her career-high of four goals which she set last season. West has made several nice plays on the power play for the Bobcats resulting in each of her power play goals.

Melissa Samoskevich tallied her 24th point of the season on Friday against Robert Morris on her 14th assist of the season. Samoskevich is tied for third on the team in assists and tied eighth in the league while here 24 points are tied for sixth in ECAC Hockey. Among freshman, Samoskevich is even better, ranking third in the league with 24 points and 14 assists.
