PRINCETON, New Jersey – Nicole Brown scored one goal and picked up one assist to lead the nationally-ranked No. 8/8 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team past the nationally-ranked No. 10/10 Princeton Tigers, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
With the come-from-behind victory, the Bobcats improve to 7-1-3 (3-1-2 ECAC Hockey) while the Tigers drop just their second game of the season to fall to 5-2-1 (3-2-1 ECAC Hockey).
Brown's two-point effort was her first since Oct. 17, 2014 in 4-0 Quinnipiac win over Maine. Brown's goal at Princeton was also her first of the season and first game-winning goal since Dec. 7, 2013 against the Rensselaer Engineers.
Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season with her early second period tally to give her 15 points this season, also good for the team-lead. Cianfarano's goal now puts the Bobcats' sophomore at 45 career points.
Cydney Roesler (Stittsville, Ontario) scored a pair of goals for her first career two-goal game, including the game-tying goal early in the third period. With her pair of goals, Roesler now has four goals and six assists for 10 points to increase her career-point total to 49.
Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) played one of her best games of the season, picking up her first career two-assist game for the Bobcats with a pair of helpers.
Also picking up assists in the Bobcats win were Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) and Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario). Kosta and Woods have each recorded one point in back to back games for the Bobcats.
Goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) recorded 18 saves on 20 shots to pick up her seventh win of the season to move her personal record to 7-1-3.
Princeton took a 1-0 lead late in the first period with just 1:17 to play after Molly Contini scored her first of the season. The Tigers' Kimiko Marinacci cut off the Bobcats rush at the blue line and passed the puck to Kiersten Falck whose diving shot was saved by Rossman. The rebound floated on the doorstep before Contini stole the puck off a Bobcat stick and circled into the slot where she wristed a shot past Rossman's blocker.
Cianfarano brought the Bobcats right back into the game with 12:29 to play in the game to tie the game 1-1. Baumgardt initially tried to dump the puck down the left boards but it was cut off by Princeton's Kelsey Koelzer. As Koelzer cleared the puck, Baumgardt stepped up to the blue line and kept it in the offensive zone. Baumgardt fed the puck across the zone to Cianfarano in the right faceoff circle where she blasted a shot through Princeton goaltender Kimberly Newell's pads and it slid through the crease into the goal.
Tucker reclaimed the lead for the Tigers with 3:49 to play in the second period after she skated in on net and her initial shot was denied by Rossman. As Rossman attempted to clear the puck with her stick, the puck ricocheted of Roesler and into the corner to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
The Bobcats had a strong start to the third period where the puck didn't leave the offensive zone for five minutes which led to the Bobcats game-tying and game-winning goals. Roesler tied up the game for the Bobcats with 16:57 to play in the third period to make it 2-2. Brown played the puck from below the face-circle up to Baumgardt at the point. Baumgardt then shifted a point to point pass to Roesler, whose shot floated through traffic in the slot and Newell didn't see it for the game-tying goal.
Brown followed up Roesler's game-tying goal with her game-winning goal just 1:40 after to seal the win for the Bobcats. Baumgardt cut off a Princeton clear along the boards before the puck was sent across the zone by a Princeton skater to Brown at the blue line. Brown hit Kosta with a pass at the high slot. As Kosta skated through, she dropped the puck off for Brown who ripped a shot past Newell's blocker to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead.
