Taylar Cianfarano Tallies Second Career Hat Trick as No. 8/7 QU Women's Ice Hockey Shuts Out No. 4/4 Clarkson, 3-0

POTSDAM, New York – Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) tallied her second career hat trick and goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) recorded a single-game career-high 29 saves as the nationally-ranked No. 8/7 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team shut out the nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Clarkson Golden Knights 3-0 at Cheel Arena on Friday night.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 8-1-3 (4-1-2 ECAC Hockey) while the Golden Knights fall for just the second time all season and drop to 13-2-2 (1-2-2 ECAC Hockey). The Bobcats have not allowed a goal to the Golden Knights in Cheel Arena since the 2013-14 season and have allowed just one goal in the last four meetings between the two teams, going 4-0-0 against Clarkson over that span.
Cianfarano has now recorded the last two hat tricks in Quinnipiac women's ice hockey history and the 20th hat trick in program history with all three of her goals on Friday coming in the second period or later. She is the first Bobcat to record the only three Quinnipiac goals in a game since Kelly Babstock on Jan. 7, 2014 when Babstock tallied the final of her seven career hat tricks. Cianfarano's three goals increase her season total to 12 as the standout sophomore has tallied 12 goals and six assists for 18 points. The Bobcats improve to 3-0-0 when Cianfarano scores at least two goals in a game this season.
In goal for the Bobcats, Rossman stood tall all game long on her way to her 29 save performance as she recorded her third shutout of the season and fifth of her career. Rossman has now shutout the Golden Knights in back-to-back starts in Cheel Arena. Of Rossman's 29 saves, 22 came in the second and third periods as the Bobcats were outshot 22-8 over that span by the Golden Knights.
Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) picked up a pair of assists for her sixth career two-assist game. This season, Connery has tallied three multiple-point games.
Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) picked up one assist for her eighth of the season, Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) added her fifth assist of the season and second straight game and Alicia Barry (Hanson, Massachusetts) tallied her first assist of the season.
Rossman preserved the scoreless tie with 13:54 to play in the second period with one of the biggest saves of the game. Clarkson's Olivia Howe skated the puck towards the slot before dishing the puck to Cayley Mercer on her left. Mercer then fired a centering feed to Howe wide open on the back door, but Rossman sprawled to her left to make the huge glove save.
Cianfarano scored two goals with in 1:37 of each other to break the scoreless tie to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. Her first goal came with 3:33 left in the first period after Connery freed the puck in the defensive zone. Connery flung the puck through the neutral zone and Cianfarano raced it down, beating a Clarkson defender to skate in one on one with Tiley before lifting the shot past Tiley's blocker to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Just 1:37 later, Cianfarano gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead with 1:56 to play in the second period. Baumgardt picked off a pass in the neutral zone where she immediately passed the puck to Connery on the blue line heading to the offensive zone. Connery centered the puck for Cianfarano in the slot where she fired one past Tiley to double the lead in the Bobcats' favor.
Midway through the third period, Cianfarano recorded her second career hat trick to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead. Barry fed the puck out of the defensive zone to Woods where she hit Cianfarano with a pass. Cianfarano skated into the left faceoff circle before sniping a shot to the upper right corner of the goal past Tiley for her third goal of the game.
