Furious Mid-Game Run, Alden Kick Save Helps Bobcats Make Program History at Niagara

Coan breaks program single-season draw mark as Quinnipiac earns first road win at Niagara
HAMDEN, Conn. — Shannon Alden made a kick save with just over a minute remaining, Mary Hage scooped up the loose ground ball and the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team was able to run out the remaining 68 seconds, clinching its first-ever win at Niagara on Saturday afternoon in an instant classic.
The Bobcats found themselves down four in the second quarter but the visitors would quickly flip the script, going on a 10-3 run that spanned 29:37 of game action to give themselves a 12-9 lead with 9:11 remaining.
The theatrics were just beginning, however, as the hosts who were celebrating Senior Day flew back, scoring the next three goals in 1:12 to tie the game at 12 with just under five minutes to play.
Abby Wise would regain the Bobcat advantage in what would be the game-winning tally, driving through traffic to give Quinnipiac its final goal and all it would need offensively to close out the 13-12 scoreline.
After a Bobcat draw control win and turnover caused by a stout Niagara defensive possession, the Purple Eagle attacker drove to the middle to fire her shot but the left knee of Alden got in the way and Quinnipiac was able to run out the rest of the clock.
STATS AND NOTES
Quinnipiac returns home on Wednesday for its final regular season game in Hamden, hosting another Buffalo area foe in Canisius. First draw is slated for 3 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
