Bobcats, Bryant Set for Saturday Matchup
3/7/2025 9:00:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
HAMDEN, Conn. — Off to its best start in program history, the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse program looks to make it six wins in its first seven tries, heading to Bryant for a 3 p.m. first draw in Smithfield, R.I.
The Bobcats bested the previous program-best mark after its dramatic win over UMass Lowell on Wednesday night as the visitors rallied for a 12-11 victory.
THE MATCHUP
Teams: Quinnipiac (5-1) at Bryant (4-3)
Broadcast: AmericaEast.TV
Live Stats: Sidearm Stats
LAST TIME OUT: vs. UMass Lowell
The Bobcats saw their early advantage dissipate but roared back, scoring the game's final three goals and clamping down in the final 10 seconds with a pair of defensive stops to earn them a 12-11 victory. Mary Hage tied the game and Mia Delmond gave the Bobcats the lead, but it was Shannon Alden who again made her presence felt, making the 20th save of her night at the biggest time, as a shot rifled towards her cage with under 10 seconds left.
After the restart, Caelan O'Connor defended Chloe Bowers impeccably, blocking her shot with three seconds left, drawing a dangerous shot yellow card and giving the Bobcats the ball and the win.
IN THE RANKINGS
First-year Shannon Alden is all over the national leaderboard, currently ranking second in total saves (73), fourth in saves per game (12.17) and fifth in save percentage (.566) entering the weekend. All three marks lead the MAAC. Cate Bendowski is fourth in the country in shot percentage (.739), while Mia Delmond is second nationally in free-position percentage (.857).
Quinnipiac as a team is fourth in the country in free-position percentage and sixth nationally in shot percentage, while they lead the MAAC in 11 NCAA stat categories.
ALL DAY ALDEN
First year netminder Shannon Alden has been nothing short of terrific to start her college career for the Bobcats, currently in the top five in three NCAA categories. She's coming off a 20-save performance against UMass Lowell, just the second by a Bobcat goalkeeper since 2003 (Kyle Larkin, 2017) and the tenth overall in program history. Her current save percentage of .566 would place her sixth all-time in Bobcat history and is the best mark by a Quinnipiac goalie since 2006.
WISE IN THE RECORD BOOKS
Abby Wise had a career day and came close to program history on Feb. 22, recording five goals and four assists for a nine-point outing against New Hampshire. She joined EllaGrace Delmond as the only Bobcats to have a nine-point day since the 2018 season and they are now two of eight to reach that mark in program history.
THE MATCHUP vs. Bryant
The Bulldogs have won the last five meetings and seven of the 10 overall in a series that dates back to 2009 when the two were members of the Northeast Conference. Bryant won last year's edition by a 10-4 final.
Mia Delmond had a two-goal day, with three ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Caelan O'Connor had a career defensive day with three ground balls and four caused turnovers.
