Quinnipiac moves to 5-1 after win over UMass Lowell
LOWELL, Mass. — For the first time in program history, the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team is 5-1 to start the season after a dramatic, 12-11, victory over UMass Lowell on Wednesday night that saw the Bobcats use a three-goal run in the fourth to tie and win the game after surrendering a three-goal lead in the third quarter.
Quinnipiac again flew out of the gates, scoring five of the game's first six goals in 16:50 of play. Abby Wise had a goal or assist on three of those five tallies.
The visitors grew their lead as large as four, with Anna Givens' tally making it 7-3 with 5:55 to go before halftime but that is when UMass Lowell made its move.
The River Hawks would score eight of the next ten, turning a four-goal deficit into a two-goal lead with 11:07 to go but that would be the last time they found twine.
Mia Delmond cut the lead to one, Mary Hage tied it and Delmond again was the winner, scoring her fourth of the game to give Quinnipiac the lead for good.
It was a frantic sequence at the end, as Shannon Alden made her 20th save of the game on a laser with eight seconds left and then Caelan O'Connor took a dangerous shot off the ankle, resulting in a UMass Lowell yellow card to end the late threat.
STATS AND NOTES
The Bobcats look to make it four wins in a row when they head to Smithfield on Saturday afternoon, taking on Bryant at 3 p.m.
