HOW IT HAPPENED
The Red Foxes got on the board in the top of the first inning as two runs came in on a triple to deep center field. The score remained the same until the third inning when the Bobcats came up in the bottom of the third inning.
Quinnipiac came out swinging in the third inning as they brought eight runs across the plate to take an 8-2 lead. Gabe Wright came home with Quinnipiac's first run of the game as he came home as Sean McCulloch got caught in a rundown. Christian Smith knotted the game up at two with an RBI single, bringing home Kyle Garbowski. CJ Willis followed up with an RBI double to bring home Sebastian Mueller to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead. Cole Constable kept the inning going with an RBI single to right field to give the Bobcats their fourth run of the inning. After a sacrifice fly from Alex Irizarry brought home Quinnipiac's fifth run of the game, Gabe Wright doubled off the left field wall to plate two more runs. Sean McCulloch capped off Quinnipiac's eight-run inning with an RBI single to score Wright.
The Bobcats tacked on another run in the fourth inning as Johnny Knox singled home Cole Constable to make it a 9-2 game. In the bottom of the sixth inning, CJ Willis launched a homer over the right field fence to make it an 11-2 ballgame.
Marist would get a run back in the eighth inning, but QU would get the run right back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Sean McCulloch who scored Alex Irizarry from third.
Marist would hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to make it 12-4, but that's where the scoring would end as Quinnipiac opened the series with a 12-4 victory over the Red Foxes.
NEWS AND NOTES
- All nine starters recorded at least one hit in the win and eight of the nine recorded two hits to down Marist.
- CJ Willis hit his third home run of the season with his sixth-inning blast, which is good fourth on the team.
- Sebastian Mueller picked up two hits and pushed his hitting streak to 19 games, recording a hit in every game so far this season.
- Sean McCulloch extended his on-base streak to 18 games and has reached base safely in 18 of 19 games he has played this season.
- Sam Wright went five innings to earn his first collegiate win.
- The Bobcats will take on the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday, March 22nd in the middle game of the three-game set at 1 PM.
