Bobcats Comeback Falls Short Against Charleston

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team's comeback against the College of Charleston Cougars fell short as the Bobcats lost 75-71 on Friday night in Hamden. Quinnipiac battled to the very end, outscoring the Cougars 43-38 in the second half, but ultimately falling short.
Ella Ryan led the Bobcats with 22 points on 61.5% (8-for-13) shooting from the floor and went 6-for-8 (75.0%) from three-point range. Sydney Ryan finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in the loss, recording 10+ points for the second straight game. Ella O'Donnell and Jackie Grisdale both finished in double figures, recording 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Sydney Ryan got the Bobcats on the board first, but then Charleston turned up the heat, going on a 13-3 run after QU opened the scoring. After the media timeout, the Cougars continued to control the quarter, finishing the first frame on an 8-3 run to lead 21-8 after the first ten minutes.
With the Bobcats down by 13, they looked to inch their way back into the game, and it started with a 10-8 run to make it a nine-point game halfway through the second quarter. The Bobcats continued to try and cut into their deficit, but the Cougars still led by nine at the halftime break.
A quick 6-0 run from the Cougars to start the second half forced the Bobcats to call a timeout while being down 43-28. After their timeout, the Bobcats got hot, outscoring the Cougars 21-14 in the final six minutes of the third quarter to make it an eight-point game.
Charleston was able to push their lead back to nine before the Bobcats made it a five-point game, thanks to a three-pointer from Sydney Ryan to force the Cougars to call a timeout. Quinnipiac continued to come back with another run, capped off by a three from Ella Ryan, to make it just a three-point game with just under three minutes remaining. Charleston would close out the game on a 6-5 run to stop the Bobcats from coming all the way back to win, 75-71.
