
Coach Owen Adds Amaya West to Coaching Staff

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University women's basketball Head Coach Roman Owen has announced the addition of Amaya West to the coaching staff prior to the 2026-27 season. West will serve as an Assistant Coach on Coach Owen's staff.

Amaya West comes to Quinnipiac after spending last season with Coach Owen at UNLV as the video coordinator for the Lady Rebels women's basketball program. During her time at UNLV as the video coordinator, West was responsible for providing video analysis for postgame film and scouting, filming and coding games and practices, and organizing film, highlights, and photoshoots for recruits, among other tasks. West helped the Lady Rebels to a 21-11 overall record and a second-place finish in the Mountain West Conference.
West comes to UNLV from Richmond, Virginia, where she was most recently the graduate assistant for the women's basketball program at Virginia Commonwealth. During her time at VCU, West assisted with scouting reports and scouted live competition during tournaments. West was responsible for developing and maintaining a social media database to organize the recruitment of student-athletes. West played a key role in recruiting, assisting the recruiting coordinator in creating detailed itineraries and facilitating campus and facility tours.
Before she arrived at VCU, West played professionally for Glanmire Ladies Basketball Club in Ireland. West averaged 16.5 points per game in eleven contests and shot 47.7% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc. West was active on both ends of the floor as she finished the season with 66 total rebounds, 18 assists, and 15 steals.
Before West went overseas, she was a standout player at Fresno State and the University of Nevada, Reno, having played in 131 career games and started 90. During her collegiate career, West collected 1,065 career points, 506 career rebounds, 143 assists, and 122 steals. She spent four seasons at UNR and closed out her collegiate career at Fresno State. In her last season with the Bulldogs, West averaged 13.4 points and 5.1 rebounds. Her best season with the Wolf Pack, West averaged 9.8 points and 5.1 rebounds.
