Hamden, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team took their win streak to seven matches as they defeated the Merrimack Warriors on Tuesday evening in Hamden in four sets.
The first set went back and forth to get things going, with no teams calling a timeout for much of the set. With the Bobcats up 21-20 late in the opening set, the Warriors called their first timeout of the match. Out of the break, the Bobcats got two straight points, a kill from Elena Giacomini and an attack error from Merrimack, to force Merrimack to call their second and final timeout of the set. Leilani-kai Giusta would finish the set off with the kill as the Bobcats opened the match with a 25-23 set one victory.
The second set started the same way the first one did, with teams trading points, until the Bobcats started to create some separation. After the Bobcats took a 16-13 lead on an attack error from Merrimack, the Warriors called their first timeout of the second set. A 6-5 scoring run prompted Merrimack to use its second timeout of the set. Out of the timeout, the Bobcats scored the next three points to win the set 25-18.
Quinnipiac jumped out to a 12-9 lead on Merrimack in the third set before the Warriors called a timeout. Out of the break, the Warriors went on a 5-4 run to make it just a two-point game. After the Bobcats called a timeout, Merrimack responded with an 8-3 scoring run to take control of the third set, 22-19. Quinnipiac took their final timeout of the set and responded by knotting the set up at 24 points apiece. The Warriors used their final timeout to turn things around and scored the next two points to win the set 26-24.
The Bobcats started on a 4-0 run and kept rolling as they led the Warriors 18-14 as Merrimack used its first timeout of the fourth set. Merrimack and Quinnipiac would split the next twelve points, but Quinnipiac still led by four, 24-20. After the Warriors used their final timeout of the set, Milena Silva recorded the kill to win it for the Bobcats.
