In-State Rivalry On Deck for Wednesday in Fairfield

HAMDEN, Conn. — Fresh off a Senior Day victory in Hamden on Saturday, the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse program heads to in-state rival Fairfield for a 3 p.m., matchup on Wednesday afternoon.
Both teams are coming off victories, as the Bobcats defeated Rider on Saturday and Fairfield rallied from behind to take down Mount St. Mary's.

Teams: Quinnipiac (2-9, 1-4 MAAC) at No. 23 Fairfield (11-1, 5-0 MAAC)

EllaGrace Delmond and Lauren Kenny scored five goals each as the Bobcats knocked off Rider 18-13 at the Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Quinnipiac jumped out quickly, scoring four of the first five to take an early advantage but Rider would rally back to take a 6-5 advantage in the second quarter. The Bobcats responded with three in a row to end the half, taking an 8-6 lead into halftime and they would not relinquish it in the second 30 minutes. Melissa Murphy helped power the defensive end, grabbing four draw controls, causing three turnovers and scooping two ground balls.
IN THE RANKINGS: Quinnipiac
The Bobcats are currently fourth in the MAAC and top 16 nationally in caused turnovers per game, recording 10.00 per game. Melissa Murphy is fifth in the MAAC in the category, causing 1.91 turnovers per contest.
Delmond is first in the MAAC and 14th in the NCAA in free-position goals per game, averaging 1.00 per contest. She also converts at a .647 percent rate, which is fourth in the MAAC and 25th in the country.
THE MATCHUP vs. Fairfield
Fairfield has taken all 15 matchups in the series that dates back to 2010. Last season saw the teams meet twice at the Stags, with the hosts winning 9-4 on April 5 and 14-7 on May 5.
