AMHERST, Ma. - The Quinnipiac baseball program will hit the road to take on the UMASS Minutemen with a midweek, non-conference matchup on Wednesday, May 1st. First pitch from Earl Lorden Field is set for 3 PM.
HISTORY VS. UMASS AMHERST
- Wednesday marks the 17th time the two programs will be facing off.
- UMASS-Amherst leads the all-time series, 10-6, dating back to March 21, 2000.
- In their last matchup, Quinnipiac came away with a 10-7 victory in Hamden. Quinnipiac used a four-run eighth inning to power their comeback over the Minutemen.
- Jared Zimbardo led the offensive charge, driving in three runs. Matt Alduino picked up the win in relief and Sam Favieri shut the door in the ninth to secure the save.
- The Minutemen enter the midweek contest with a 18-22 overall record and an 8-7 record out of the A10 conference. UMASS currently sits in sixth place in the conference.
- UMASS is 2-0 against MAAC opponents this season, outscoring them 27-9.
- The Minutemen are coming off a weekend sweep of A10 foe, Saint Joseph's. UMASS took down St. Joseph's 8-5 in the opening game of the series before taking a 7-6 win to secure the series win. With a sweep looming, the Minutemen defeated the Hawks, 10-9, to sweep the series.
- Matt Travisano and Austin Burgess lead the Minutemen with a .310 batting average in 36 games played. Carter Hanson leads the ballclub with 37 RBIs and Mike Gervasi leads the team with 11 home runs.
- Robbie O'Connor has made ten starts for the Minutemen and holds an ERA of 5.63. O'Connor has recorded 37 strikeouts in 48.0 innings pitched.
- Quinnipiac lost two-of-three to the Manhattan Jaspers in MAAC play (April 26-28).
- After Quinnipiac dropped the opening game of the series, 6-3, the bats came out in game two, scoring 14 runs to defeat the Jaspers. Keegan O'Connor drove in three runs to lead the offense, while Mason Ulsh went 6.0 innings and struck out six to earn his second win of the year.
- Quinnipiac would fall to the Jaspers, 10-3, in the series finale, which was played in Hamden. With the loss, QU fell to 7-8 in MAAC play, which has them tied for fourth place in the conference.

- He blasted 13 home runs and drove in 60 runs and scored 51 runs.
- O'Connor drove in a game-high 7 runs in a win over Saint Peter's (5/11).
- Sebastian Mueller was named to the 2023 MAAC All-Academic Team
- Mueller played in 56 games and made 55 starts as a junior
- In 225 at-bats just a season ago, Mueller had a batting average of .311.
- He hit 18 homers, to lead the team, and drove in 54 runs.
- Mueller went 4-for-7 and drove in a season high 8 runs in a win over Saint Peter's (5/11)
- The Bobcats return 23 players from last season's team.
- Sophomore Matt Alduino will be a key returner as he earned 2023 All-Rookie honors for his incredible campaign. Alduino led the team with a 4.50 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
- Starting Pitchers, Mason Ulsh and Jimmy Hagan will also play a key role this season. Hagan will return to the mound after being shut down last season. Ulsh will look to play off his solid sophomore season.
- Other key returners include Braydon Seaburg, John Heitzman, Sean Swenson, Aaron Zenus, Matt DeRosa, Sam Favieri, Frank Craska, and Andrew Rubayo.
LOTS OF NEW FACES
- Quinnipiac welcomes 13 new faces to their campus this season.
- The Bobcats used the transfer portal to fill any openings and grabbed Dominick Proctor (Bryant and Stratton), CJ Willis (Western New England), Skyler Manelski (Linfield University), Jack Kabel (Nichols College), Gabe Wright (Indian River State College), Brett Leighton (Gettysburg), and Jack Gannon (Saint Peter's).
- Quinnipiac also brought in six first years, Spencer Chard (Newtown, Conn.), Kyle Garbowski (New Fairfield, Conn.), Raymond McNaught (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Andrew Hearn (Westfield, Mass.), James Fahan (Stamford, Conn.), and Sam Ametrano (Guilford, Conn.).
- The Bobcats will take the trip up to Niagara Falls, NY to take on the Purple Eagles in a three-game series, starting on May 3rd and concluding on May 5th.
