NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac baseball team is back in action Tuesday, April 23rd as they travel to New Britain to battle the CCSU Blue Devils. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM and can be seen on NEC Front Row.
HISTORY VS. CCSU
- Tuesday will mark the 62nd matchup between the two ballclubs.
- CCSU leads the all-time series, 41-20, dating back to March 31, 2001.
- In their last matchup, the Bobcats came away with the 8-7 win in Hamden back on March 12, 2024. Keegan O'Connor and Sean Swenson both drove in three RBIs to help the Bobcats to the win.
- The Blue Devils enter the midweek battle with a 11-19 overall record and a 10-11 record out of the NEC.
- CCSU is coming off a weekend series win over the FDU Knights, taking two out of three matchups.
- After losing the opening game to FDU, 9-3, CCSU bounced back on day two, winning 16-2. With the series on the line on Sunday, CCSU's offense powered them to an 11-5 win.
- Brady Short has played in all 30 games for CCSU and has a batting average of .360. Short has recorded 19 RBIs this season and has an on-base percentage of .437.
- Sam Hutchinson has made 10 appearances for the Blue Devils and holds an ERA of 2.11, which leads the team. Jake Neuman leads the team with 46.0 innings pitched with one complete game. Neuman has struck out 28 batters in eight starts.
- Quinnipiac swept the Canisius Golden Griffins in a crucial MAAC series that would push the Bobcats into fourth place in the MAAC.
- In game one, the Bobcats scored five runs in the seventh inning which helped them defeat Canisius, 8-3. Gabe Wright drove in three runs, while Sam Favieri picked up his fourth win after pitching 4.0 innings and striking out four.
- In the middle game of the series, Mason Ulsh went seven strong innings, striking out ten to help lead the Bobcats to the 6-1 win. Gabe Wright led the offense with two RBIs, including his first homer as a Bobcat.
- The series finale was all Bobcats early on as they held a 10-3 after five innings. QU only allowed two more runs as they finished off the sweep with a 10-5 victory.
- Junior Keegan O'Connor enters his senior season.
- O'Connor was named to the All-MAAC First Team and NEIBA All-New England First Team
- O'Connor played and started in 55 games a season ago and batted .342.
- He blasted 13 home runs and drove in 60 runs and scored 51 runs.
- O'Connor drove in a game-high 7 runs in a win over Saint Peter's (5/11).
- Sebastian Mueller was named to the 2023 MAAC All-Academic Team
- Mueller played in 56 games and made 55 starts as a junior
- In 225 at-bats just a season ago, Mueller had a batting average of .311.
- He hit 18 homers, to lead the team, and drove in 54 runs.
- Mueller went 4-for-7 and drove in a season high 8 runs in a win over Saint Peter's (5/11)
- The Bobcats return 23 players from last season's team.
- Sophomore Matt Alduino will be a key returner as he earned 2023 All-Rookie honors for his incredible campaign. Alduino led the team with a 4.50 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
- Starting Pitchers, Mason Ulsh and Jimmy Hagan will also play a key role this season. Hagan will return to the mound after being shut down last season. Ulsh will look to play off his solid sophomore season.
- Other key returners include Braydon Seaburg, John Heitzman, Sean Swenson, Aaron Zenus, Matt DeRosa, Sam Favieri, Frank Craska, and Andrew Rubayo.
LOTS OF NEW FACES
- Quinnipiac welcomes 13 new faces to their campus this season.
- The Bobcats used the transfer portal to fill any openings and grabbed Dominick Proctor (Bryant and Stratton), CJ Willis (Western New England), Skyler Manelski (Linfield University), Jack Kabel (Nichols College), Gabe Wright (Indian River State College), Brett Leighton (Gettysburg), and Jack Gannon (Saint Peter's).
- Quinnipiac also brought in six first years, Spencer Chard (Newtown, Conn.), Kyle Garbowski (New Fairfield, Conn.), Raymond McNaught (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Andrew Hearn (Westfield, Mass.), James Fahan (Stamford, Conn.), and Sam Ametrano (Guilford, Conn.).
- The Bobcats will hit the road for a three-game MAAC series with the Manhattan Jaspers from Friday, April 26 – Sunday, April 28.
