
Bobcats Defeat CCSU In Offensive Battle

The Bobcats will improve to 15-21 overall, while CCSU will fall to 11-20 overall in the 2024 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Christian Smith got the scoring party started in the top of the first as he blasted a solo home run to deep center field.

Later in the inning, Gabe Wright laced a triple to right center which scored CJ Willis and gave QU a 2-0 lead early in this one. Matt DeRosa later reached on an error to score Gabe Wright and give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead after one.
QU added on another run in the top of the third inning as Matt DeRosa singled to left to score Wright and give them a 4-0 lead. CCSU would respond in the bottom half of the third as they brought in two runs to cut the lead in half.
For the second time of the game, Christian Smith blasted a homer, this time a two-run home run to center field, to put the lead back at four. The next batter, CJ Willis, followed suit and hit a solo homer of his own to make it 7-2.

Dominick Proctor would bring home another run for Quinnipiac off a sacrifice bunt, which allowed Gabe Wright to score. In the bottom of the fifth, CCSU would strike for three runs to make it an 8-5 game. The Blue Devils would get a run closer in the sixth inning as a sacrifice fly would make it an 8-6 game.
Quinnipiac responded with seven runs in the seventh inning to build a big lead. Kyle Garbowski got the scoring started as he hit a two-run single to left field to bring home DeRosa and Proctor. With the bases loaded, Christian Smith delivered with an RBI single to make it an 11-6 lead for the Bobcats. CJ Willis then drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Zimbardo to make it a six-run lead. With two outs in the inning, Matt DeRosa came up clutch with a double down the left field line to clear the bases.

CCSU wouldn't go down without a fight as they made it a 15-11 game through seven innings. After they held the Bobcats scoreless in the 8th inning, the Blue Devils struck for three runs, making it a one-run game.
With the Bobcats up to bat in the ninth inning, the umpires came together to call the game due to darkness, giving QU the 15-14 victory.

- Eight different Bobcats recorded hits in the offensive outburst.
- Christian Smith (3-for-5) and Matt DeRosa (2-for-3) both led the offense with four RBIs each.
- Kyle Garbowski (1-for-5) and CJ Willis (2-for-4) both drove in two runs each.
- Gabe Wright (3-for-5) and Dominick Proctor (2-for-4) each drove in a run.
- Keegan O'Connor picked up two hits and Jared Zimbardo picked up one.
- Zimbardo extended his on-base streak to 35 games.
- Matt Alduino was credited with the save as he pitched the bottom of the eighth inning and struck out two.
- The Bobcats will take on the Manhattan Jaspers in a three-game MAAC series this weekend with game one on Friday, April 26 at 3 PM.
