Monroe's Double-Double Powers QU Past Rider in MAAC Opener

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Amarri Monroe registered a double-double (20 points, 13 rebounds) on Friday night at Alumni Gym, leading Quinnipiac Men's Basketball past Rider in the MAAC opener by the final score of 72-67.
Four Bobcats reached double-figure scoring totals in the victory. Monroe, the Preseason MAAC Player of the Year, shot 8-of-15 from the floor and 3-for-6 from distance.
Khaden Bennett scored 12 points, Paul Otieno added 11 points and seven rebounds, and Doug Young chipped in with 10 points.
Doug Young made a driving layup with 1:22 left to give Quinnipiac a two-point lead, then Monroe buried a 3-pointer with 24 seconds remaining to help clinch the victory.

- Quinnipiac shot 47.4% (27-of-57) in total, the Bobcats' best shooting performance in a game so far in 2024-25.
- Amarri Monroe's double-double is his first of the season. He's now averaging 13.4 PPG & 6.6 RPG through nine contests for QU. The junior forward set a season high in rebounds (13), finishing just two shy of his career-high mark (15). Monroe was on the floor for 38:54, checking out of the game for just over a minute in total.
- Khaden Bennett has now tallied four consecutive games of 10+ points. He's averaging an even 10.0 points per contest after a run of 19 points, 14 points, 17 points, and 12 points.
- Paul Otieno chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds (three more offensive rebounds). The Nairobi, Kenya-native leads the entire nation in offensive rebounds per game (4.8). Otieno shot 4-of-6 from the floor and blocked a game-best four shots.
- Doug Young's 10 points off the bench came via 4-of-8 shooting. The guard scored eight points in the second half alone.
- Ryan Mabrey added five points and a season-high six assists.
- First-year guard Jaden Zimmerman added seven points, while fellow first-year wing Grant Randall added five points and four rebounds.
- Quinnipiac has now taken down Rider in eight of the last nine meetings between the two teams. The Bobcats are 3-1 against Rider in the last four matchups at Alumni Gym.
