NASHVILLE — A pair of Quinnipiac men's ice hockey connections were selected in the 2023 NHL Draft at Bridgestone Arena over the weekend, as rising sophomore Charles Alexis Legault and 2024-25 commit Chris Pelosi heard their names called at the home of the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
Legault was selected with the 139th overall pick in the fifth round by the Carolina Hurricanes, while Pelosi was the 92nd overall pick by the Boston Bruins in the third round of last night's draft.
A native of Kelowna, B.C., Legault just completed his first year with the Bobcats, playing in 41 games for the 2023 national champions. He scored in his collegiate debut, a screen shot from the point for the second of Quinnipiac's four goals in a 4-0 shutout of Boston College on October 7, 2022. He finished the year with seven total points, scoring a pair of goals and adding five assists.
"We are very excited for Charles and his family," head coach Rand Pecknold said. "He made an immediate impact for us in his first season and this selection proves that. We expect him to take another major jump this season as he takes on a larger role in our defensive unit."
Pelosi, an incoming Bobcat starting with the 2024-25 season, completed the 2022-23 campaign with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL. In 43 games, the 6-foot-2-inch center recorded 19 points, scoring 13 goals and dishing six assists.
"We are very excited for Chris and his family," Pecknold said. "As an incoming center, he has already proven to have consistent success as a 200-foot player and will be a great addition to our program. Him being drafted is just the beginning of his upward trajectory."
Legault makes it three drafted players on the 2023-24 projected Bobcat roster, joining classmate Sam Lipkin, who was selected in 2021 by the Arizona Coyotes and incoming transfer Cooper Moore, who was selected in the fifth round by the Detroit Red Wings in 2019.
