
Bobcats Split Doubleheader At Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team split their doubleheader with the Hartford Hawks on Saturday afternoon. Quinnipiac dropped game one of the doubleheader against Hartford by a final score of 9-6 in seven innings. The Bobcats bounced back with a win in game two over the Hawks by a final score of 13-6.
After the doubleheader, the Bobcats record goes to 20-24 overall on the season, while the Hawks go to 4-32 on the 2023 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, Sean Swenson doubled down the right field line to score Keegan O'Connor to even the game at one. Hartford would score five runs in the second inning and two runs in the third inning to take an 8-1 lead into the fourth.
Sebastian Mueller started the fourth inning with a double down the left field line. Kyle Maves stepped up to the plate as the next batter and he brought Mueller home with a single through the right side of the infield. The Bobcats weren't done in the inning, as Matt DeRosa brought home O'Connor with an RBI single of his own to bring the Bobcats within five.
After Hartford took a 9-3 lead in the fifth inning, Maves got the inning started with a double to center field. O'Connor would be the next batter and he would bring Maves home with an RBI double as the Bobcats made it a five run ballgame. DeRosa would drive in his second run of the game on an RBI double to bring the Bobcats within four after the sixth inning.
Trailing 9-5 heading into the seventh inning, Keegan O'Connor sent a solo shot over the fence for a home run to make it a three run game, but the Hawks would get the final out to take game one.
GAME 2
Keegan O'Connor picked up right where he left off with a three run home-run in the first inning to get the Bobcats out to an early 3-0 lead. Hartford would score two runs in the bottom of the third inning via a two-run double to make it a one-run game.
In the top of the fourth, Braydon Seaburg brought home Anthony Donofrio with a one out single through the right side. With the bases loaded, Jared Zimbardo doubled to deep left center field to knock in two more runs. Then, Kyle Maves brought home Quinnipiac's fourth run of the inning on an RBI single, making it a 7-2 Bobcats lead. After a Hartford pitching change, Sebastian Mueller welcomes the new pitcher by hitting a three-run home run to extend the lead to eight.
With one out in the top of the fifth, Seaburg tripled to right center field to set up the Bobcats to score more runs. That is exactly what happened as Seaburg came across the plate after a SAC fly from Christian Smith. Hartford would get a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a home-run to lead off the inning.
Hartford would make it an 11-6 ballgame heading into the final inning. Anthony Donofrio brought home run number 12 on the day with an RBI single to first base. Matt Tesoriero brought home another run with an RBI single of his own to make it a 13-6 ballgame.

NEWS AND NOTES
- Andrew Rubayo threw four innings in relief, striking out three batters.
- Matt DeRosa went 2-for-3 in game one with a single, double, and two runs batted in.
- Mike Poncini got the start in game two where he struck out six in five innings allowing just three runs.
- Sebastian Mueller went a combined 5-for-9 on the day with three of those hits coming in game 2. Mueller knocked in three runs on his fourth inning (Game 2) home run.
- Keegan O'Connor would finish the day hot, going a combined 6-for-9 with two home runs and five RBIs.
