Bobcats' Have 10-Game Win Streak Snapped in Loss Against Niagara

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's basketball was unable to complete a fourth-quarter comeback, falling short at home against Niagara, 63-58, snapping its 10-game win streak Thursday evening inside of M&T Bank Arena.
With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 19-8 overall on the season and 14-4 in the MAAC, while the Purple Eagles improved to 14-11 overall and 13-4 in conference play. The loss snapped Quinnipiac's win streak at 10 games, its longest since the 2018-19 season with 21 consecutive victories.
Cur'Tiera Haywood led Quinnipiac with 13 points and added eight boards in the loss, while Mackenzie DeWees totaled a season-best 11 points and contributed five rebounds and three steals. Mary Baskerville logged 10 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and two steals in the contest.
The two sides were nearly even in the first quarter, with Quinnipiac carrying a 14-10 lead into the second behind four points apiece from Cur'Tiera Haywood and Mackenzie DeWees.
Niagara opened the second quarter with a 10-1 run behind seven points from Angel Parker to take a 20-15 lead before a Rose Caverly three-point play ended the run.
Trailing 21-18 out of the media timeout, Quinnipiac went on a swift 6-0 run led by four points from Haywood to give the Bobcats a 24-21 lead and force a Niagara timeout.
However, the Purple Eagles outpaced the Bobcats 7-2 for the remainder of the frame to take a 28-26 lead into the break.
Niagara opened the second half with a quick 7-0 run to extend its lead to 35-26 before Quinnipiac called a timeout. The Purple Eagles held Quinnipiac to nine points in the frame, as Niagara carried a 47-35 lead into the fourth.
Quinnipiac did not go away quietly, using the opening 4:40 of the frame to go on a 17-4 run, capped by a Grace LaBarge three to give the Bobcats a 52-51 lead, erasing a 12-point deficit.
With the game tied at 56-56, Aaliyah Parker nailed a corner jumper to push the Purple Eagles ahead by two with 49 seconds remaining in regulation. The Bobcats were not able to get over the hump, falling short, 63-58.
