Bobcats Complete Season Sweep Over Siena in 17-Point Victory
2/25/2023 9:14:00 PM | Women's Basketball
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – It was a total team effort as three different student-athletes reached double-figure point totals in the Quinnipiac women's basketball team's 69-52 road victory over Siena on Saturday evening inside of the UHY Center.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 20-8 overall on the season and 15-4 in the MAAC, while the Saints fell to 17-11 overall and 11-7 in conference play. Mary Baskerville led the way for Quinnipiac with 16 points, while Rose Caverly tallied 13 points and Mackenzie DeWees added 12 points of her own.
The Bobcats got off to a hot start, using the opening 3:55 of the contest to jump out to a 9-2 lead, capped by a Rose Caverly three to force a Siena timeout.
The Bobcats were able to extend the lead to 12-2 out of the timeout behind an old-fashioned three-point play from Baskerville. However, the Saints closed the frame with a 10-4 run to trim Quinnipiac's lead to 16-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The two sides were nearly even through the first five minutes of the second quarter with Quinnipiac narrowly outpacing Siena 13-8 to extend the lead to 29-20 into the media timeout. The Bobcats maintained their distance, carrying a 35-26 lead into the half.
Quinnipiac opened the second half with a swift 7-2 run, backed by a Jackie Grisdale three-pointer to extend the lead to 42-28 with six minutes left to go in the third quarter.
However, the Saints responded with a 10-3 run to trim their deficit to 45-38 before a Mackenzie DeWees free throw and a Grace LaBarge layup extended Quinnipiac's lead to 48-38 entering the fourth.
The Bobcats stayed hot, opening the frame with a 7-2 run to push the lead to 15 points with 7:27 remaining in regulation.
The lead proved to be too much for Siena as Quinnipiac held on for the 69-52 victory.
