HAMDEN, Conn. – First-year forward Anna Foley led the Bobcats with 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in the Quinnipiac women's basketball team's home victory over Holy Cross, 66-63, Sunday afternoon inside M&T Bank Arena.

With the win, the Bobcats improved to 3-5 in the early campaign, while Holy Cross fell to 4-5 to start the 2023-24 season.
It was a defensive battle early on, as the two sides combined to score 15 points over the first 5:30 of action, with Quinnipiac taking a slim 9-6 lead into the media timeout. Out of the break, the Bobcats closed the frame outscoring Holy Cross 7-5, taking a 16-11 lead into the second quarter behind four points apiece from Paige Girardi and Ella O'Donnell in the opening frame.
The Crusaders used the opening 5:15 of the frame to go on a 15-9 run to take a 26-25 lead entering the media timeout. However, the Bobcats closed the half with a 12-4 run, capped by a three-pointer from Kassidy Thompson to take a 37-30 lead into the midway break.
The Bobcats used the first 3:14 of the second half to outpace the Crusaders, 8-5, to extend the lead to 45-35 before calling a timeout. Out of the break, Holy Cross responded with a 9-3 run of their own to trim Quinnipiac's lead to 48-44.
However, Maria Kealy and Foley scored back-to-back baskets to spark a 6-3 run to close the third quarter, giving the Bobcats a seven-point lead entering the final period.
Holy Cross held Quinnipiac to just five points over the first 5:55 of the fourth, scoring 11 points during that span to tie the contest at 58-58 with just under four minutes remaining in regulation before a Jackie Grisdale layup gave QU the lead again.
Leading by four with under a minute left, Bri Bowen took a charge on defense to force a Holy Cross turnover to get QU the ball back. However, Holy Cross got a steal on the next possession and scored on a fast break layup to trim the Quinnipiac lead to two.
However, that's as close as Holy Cross got, as the Bobcats held on for the 66-63 victory.
