Bobcats Fall in Thriller Against Vermont

HAMDEN, Conn. – Jackie Grisdale and Karson Martin scored 12 points apiece, but it wasn't enough as the Quinnipiac women's basketball team came up a short at home against Vermont, 58-53, Friday afternoon inside M&T Bank Arena.
Along with Grisdale and Martin's 12 points apiece, Anna Foley added 12 points, six assists, five rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 1-2 in the early campaign, while Vermont improved to 2-1 to start the 2023-24 season.
It was a defensive-geared opening frame, as the Bobcats were held to nine points as Vermont carried a 13-9 advantage into the second quarter.
The two sides traded scores in the first five minutes of the second quarter with the Bobcats outscoring the Catamounts 12-8 to knot the game at 21-21 entering the media timeout.
The two sides continued to trade points in the final five minutes of the half, with Quinnipiac edging Vermont, 7-6, to take a 28-27 lead into halftime.
The Catamounts forced the Bobcats to shoot 40 percent from the floor in the third quarter, carrying a 40-37 lead into the fourth over Quinnipiac.
Vermont scored five of the first eight points of the fourth, forcing Quinnipiac to call a timeout trailing 45-40 with 8:27 remaining in regulation. Out of the break, Vermont went on a swift 5-0 run to extend its lead to 10, forcing Quinnipiac to use another timeout with 7:02 remaining in regulation.
Out of the break, the Bobcats responded with a 9-4 run, capped by a Grace LaBarge three-pointer to cut the deficit to 54-49, forcing a Vermont timeout with 2:10 remaining in regulation.
However, time was not on Quinnipiac's side, as the Catamounts eventually held on for the 58-53 victory over the Bobcats.
