Baskerville Tallies 14 Points in Bobcats' Loss at Niagara

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – Quinnipiac women's basketball had its win streak snapped at three games, falling short on the road at MAAC foe Niagara, 67-64, Thursday afternoon inside of the Gallagher Center.
With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 8-6 overall on the season and 3-2 in the MAAC, while the Purple Eagles improved to 4-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Quinnipiac had four players finish with double-figures in scoring, led by Mary Baskerville's 14 points. Mikala Morris added 13 points of her own, while Jackie Grisdale and Cur'Tiera Haywood contributed 12 points apiece.
The first quarter was gritty, as the two sides combined for 16 turnovers and 14 fouls as the Purple Eagles carried a 16-12 lead into the second quarter. After falling behind 18-12 to open the second quarter, the Bobcats responded with a 7-0 run, capped by a layup from Mary Baskerville to put Quinnipiac ahead 19-18 with 6:58 to go before halftime.
However, Niagara responded with a 7-2 run of its own to take a 25-21 lead over Quinnipiac. Unwavering under through the run, the Bobcats went on a swift 5-0 run, capped by a three-point play from Jackie Grisdale to give Quinnipiac a one-point lead.
Niagara held Quinnipiac scoreless over the final 3:14 of the half, outscoring the Bobcats 4-0 during the span to carry a 29-26 lead into the break.
Falling behind 31-25, the Bobcats went on a 13-5 run, to take a 39-36 lead with 3:06 remaining in the third quarter. After Niagara knotted the contest at 41-41, Quinnipiac used the final 1:32 of the period to outpace the Purple Eagles 8-4, carrying a 49-45 lead into the fourth quarter.
Niagara used the opening 3:35 of the fourth to outscore Quinnipiac 9-3, taking a 54-52 lead in the process. After the Bobcats knotted the game at 54-54, Niagara went on a 6-0 run to take a 60-54 lead before a Cur'Tiera Haywood layup halted the run with Quinnipiac trailing by four with just under three minutes left in regulation.
After the Bobcats cut the deficit to 60-58, Niagara's Ary Hicks made a corner three-pointer to push the Purple Eagle's lead to five with 1:25 left in regulation. The two sides continued to exchange points, but time was not on Quinnipiac's side, as Niagara hung on for the 67-64 win over the Bobcats.
