Defensive Effort Leads Bobcats Past Manhattan on the Road, 52-38

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Carried by a full team defensive effort, Quinnipiac women's basketball extended its win streak to three games with a 52-38 road victory over Manhattan on Thursday evening inside of Draddy Gymnasium.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 12-7 overall on the season and 7-3 in the MAAC, while the Jaspers fell to 8-11 overall and 4-6 in conference play. Quinnipiac forced Manhattan to shoot 13-for-70 (18.6%) from the field en route to the victory. Cur'Tiera Haywood led Quinnipiac in scoring with 16 points in the win.
Quinnipiac used its defense to carry itself to a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, holding Manhattan to 3-for-18 (16.7%) shooting in the first frame.
The Bobcats used the opening six minutes of the second quarter to go on a 10-1 run, powered by three-pointers from Cur'Tiera Haywood and Grace LaBarge to increase the Quinnipiac lead to 24-9.
Manhattan outscored Quinnipiac 5-3 the remainder of the half, but the Bobcats carried a 27-14 lead into the break, behind 10 first-half points from Haywood.
The Jaspers turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter, holding the Bobcats to five points in the frame, trimming their deficit to 32-23 entering the fourth.
After Manhattan cut Quinnipiac's lead to 32-26 with 8:54 remaining, the Bobcats responded with a 14-0 run to extend their lead to 46-26 with 2:02 left in regulation.
The hole proved to be too big for the Jaspers to climb out of, as the Bobcats held on for the eventual 52-38 victory.
