Baskerville's Double-Doubles Propels Bobcats Past Siena, 68-63

HAMDEN, Conn. – Powered by 17 points from Jackie Grisdale and a double-double from Mary Baskerville, Quinnipiac women's basketball extended its win streak to four consecutive games with a 68-63 home victory over Siena Saturday afternoon inside of M&T Bank Arena.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 13-7 overall on the season and 8-3 in the MAAC, while the Saints fell to 13-8 overall and 7-4 in conference play. Grisdale led all scorers with 17 points, while Mary Baskerville totaled 16 points and 20 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
The Saints used the opening 5:19 of the contest to jump out to an early 14-5 lead behind two three-pointers. However, the Bobcats battled back, using a 9-2 run powered by the offensive and defensive efforts from Mary Baskerville to cut the Quinnipiac deficit to 16-14 entering the second quarter.
The Bobcats used a swift 4-0 run to open the second quarter, taking an 18-16 lead in the process before Siena responded with four straight points of their own to take a 22-18 lead. Unwavered, Quinnipiac went on a 9-0 run with all nine points coming from Jackie Grisdale and Baskerville to give the Bobcats a 27-22 lead.
The run extended to 15-2 into the half with Quinnipiac carrying a 33-24 lead at the break.
The two sides were nearly even in the third quarter, with Siena narrowly outscoring Quinnipiac in the frame, 18-17, allowing the Bobcats to take an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter.
After Siena cut Quinnipiac's lead to six, the Bobcats responded with a 7-3 run, backed by five points from Mackenzie DeWees to push the lead back to 10.
The deficit proved to be too much for the Saints, as Quinnipiac hung on for the 68-63 victory.
