Becomes First Alum to Win NHL's Championship
TAMPA BAY, Fla. - Former Quinnipiac men's ice hockey assistant captain Devon Toews became a Stanley Cup Champion on Sunday evening as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Tampa.
Toews (Abbottsford, British Columbia) becomes the first Quinnipiac alum to win the Stanley Cup after being the second Bobcat to reach the finals (Connor Clifton, 2019). Toews, who finished eighth in the NHL's voting for the Norris Trophy (league's best defenseman), scored 57 points in 66 regular season games and posted 15 points in 19 postseason games.
The Avalanche defeated the Lightning at Amalie Arena, the same site that hosted the 2016 Frozen Four in which Toews and the Bobcats fell to North Dakota in the National Championship game.
