Davis Leads Bobcats in Doubleheader Split vs UMBC, Lafayette

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Bobcats went 1-1 to open the UMBC Spring Invite this weekend. Quinnipiac saw UMBC first to begin the day and were shutout, 4-0. The Bobcats bounced back and defeated Lafayette, 4-3, in game two. First-year Sydney Horan picked up her third win of the season, and senior Hannah Davis led the team with a double, two RBIs and one run in the win.
Quinnipiac moves to 3-9 on the season, UMBC improves to 13-4, and Lafayette stands at 5-13.
Highlights vs UMBC:
UMBC's Courtney Coppersmith tallied a no-hitter against the Bobcats in the 0-4 loss. The Retrievers tallied six hits with two home runs to earn the 4-0 win. Jaclyn Gonzalez pitched five innings, recording three strikeouts. Zali Adams came in to relieve Gonzalez and pitched one inning with one strikeout.
Highlights vs Lafayette:
First Inning - The Bobcats tallied the team's first run in three games in the first inning against Lafayette. Bridget Nasir got on base with a single to center field. After advancing to second base, Nasir scored off a single from Hannah Davis, who added an RBI.
Second Inning - The Leopards got on the board with a three-run inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Third Inning - The Bobcats took back the lead in the third inning, adding three more runs. Nasir hit her second single of the game to get on base for Quinnipiac. She later stole second base and then advanced to third. Taylor Walton hit her second double of the year and notched an RBI as Nasir scored her second run of the game. Davis stepped up and hit a double of her own, allowing Alyssa Noce (pitch runner) to score. Davis later scored on a wild pitch, giving Quinnipiac the 4-3 lead.
Sydney Horan entered the game in third inning for Taylor Walton. Horan pitched the final five innings, allowing zero runs with one strikeout to seal the win for Quinnipiac. The first year pitcher picked up her third win of the season and has been in the circle for all three of Quinnipiac's win this season.
