Thomas Homers, Bobcats Drop Final Two Games of UBMC Spring Invite

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Bobcats dropped two tight contests today on the final day of the UMBC Spring Invite. Quinnipiac lost 9-10 to UMBC and 7-9 to Towson. The Bobcats tallied season highs in RBIs, hits and runs against the Retrievers and Tigers today.
Quinnipiac moves to 3-11 on the season, UMBC improves to 15-4, and Towson stands at 9-13.
Highlights vs UMBC:
Third Inning - The Retrievers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. The Bobcats got on the board in the third to get within three runs. Gianna Palmisano was on second base when Bridget Nasir hit a double to left field, allowing Palmisano to score.
The Retriever then tallied three more runs in the third inning to take a 7-1 lead.
Fourth Inning - The Bobcats added two more runs in the fourth to cut the lead to four. Kayla Thomas stepped up and hit a two-RBI home run with Alyssa Noce on base.
Fifth Inning - Quinnipiac's offense exploded in the fifth inning, tallying five runs to take back an 8-7 lead. Brooke Hilliard got the inning started with a single to right field. Hannah Davis reached first base on a throwing error. Hilliard later scored after Thomas reached on a fielder's choice. Kayla Jensen stepped up and hit a double to left field, allowing Taylor Walker (pinch runner) to score. Serena had been walked earlier and advanced home to score after Palmisano grounded out to second base. Jensen later scored one of her own off a wild pitch. The Bobcats ended the inning with an 8-7 lead.
Sixth Inning - Quinnipiac added another run to take its lead to 9-7. Nasir was walked to begin the inning, and she later scored off a wild pitch.
UMBC would come back to tak the lead in the sixth inning and held on to win, 10-9.
Notable Stats:
Third Inning - Down 3-0, the Bobcats looked to get on the board in the third inning. Hilliard got the inning started with a double to center field. After advancing to third, Hilliard scored off a bunt by Davis. Davis advanced to second after Thomas hit a single up the middle. Fogg was walked, allowing Davis and Thomas to advance one base. Lala Pascual hit a single through the left side, allowing Thomas and Davis to score. Fogg then scored one of her own after Palmisano hit a single to the pitcher. Nasir then stepped up and hit a single, allowing Pascual to score. Hilliard came back around in the lineup and hit a single down the right field line, allowing Palmisano to score. In the third, the Bobcats recorded seven runs to take a 7-3 lead.
The Tigers would claw back and score six runs to take a 9-7 lead and would hold on to win.
Notable Stats:
Quinnipiac will host Hartford and Maine next weekend in the team's home opener on March 26-27.

- Sydney Horan, Zali Adams and Jaclyn Gonzalez all pitched in this loss. Gozalez tallied one strikeout and recorded the loss.
- The Bobcats recorded a season-high nine runs and seven RBIs against the Retrievers.

In the third, the Bobcats recorded seven runs to take a 7-3 lead.
The Tigers would claw back and score six runs to take a 9-7 lead and would hold on to win.
Notable Stats:
- The Bobcats tallied a season-high 11 hits and seven RBIs today against the Tigers.
- Hilliard went 2-3 with a double and a single, two RBIs and one run.
- Pascual went 1-4 with one run and two RBIs.
- Gonzalez, Adams and Horan all pitched in the loss. Horan led the trio with two strikeouts.
- Towson tallied 13 hits with just one error, while Quinnipiac had 11 hits and five errors.
