Alyssa Ruiz Named Quinnipiac Softball Head Coach

HAMDEN, Conn. — Quinnipiac University Athletics announced Thursday the hiring of Alyssa Ruiz as head softball coach, effective immediately.
Ruiz joins the Bobcats after serving as head coach at Saint Peter's University during the 2026 season. A former Peacocks student-athlete, Ruiz had been a member of the Saint Peter's coaching staff since 2018.
"I am incredibly honored and excited to be named the head coach of Quinnipiac Softball," Ruiz said. "I am grateful to Greg Amodio, Sarah Fraser, Bill Mecca, and the rest of the Quinnipiac athletic department for believing in me and entrusting me with the program. Quinnipiac has a tradition of excellence, and I am excited to build on that. I cannot wait to get to work with our student-athletes, staff, alumni, and the entire Bobcat community."
"Alyssa Ruiz is a dedicated leader who understands what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level as both a player and a coach," said Deputy Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator Sarah Fraser. "Her passion for mentoring young women and building a strong team culture stood out throughout the search process. We are excited to welcome her to Hamden and look forward to the future of Quinnipiac softball under her guidance."
Ruiz helped lead Saint Peter's to seven total victories in 2026 as head coach. The Peacocks have won 110 total contests since she joined the coaching staff as an assistant in 2018.Ruiz also served as Dean of Culture & School Counselor at Saint Dominic Academy since 2021 – focusing on culture building and player development.
A former student-athlete for Saint Peter's, Ruiz played four seasons for the Peacocks (graduated in 2017) as both a pitcher and a second baseman. In 2017, Ruiz recorded 12 strikeouts on the mound and three hits at the plate as a two-way player.
Ruiz is a two-time graduate of Saint Peter's. She earned her BA in Education in 2017, then received her Master of Arts in Education (School Counseling) in 2020.
