Metsa Collects Honor for Second Year In a Row, Perets Earns First
ALBANY, N.Y – Quinnipiac senior Zach Metsa has repeated as an All-ECAC Hockey First Team selection and is joined this season by teammate Yaniv Perets, as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
Quinnipiac has now had 12 First Team All-ECAC Hockey picks in program history and 41 players named to All-ECAC Hockey Teams since the Bobcats joined the conference for the 2005-06 season.
Metsa, who was also selected to the First Team last season, led a defensive unit that put together one of the best seasons in the history of NCAA Hockey, smashing the single-season shutout record with 16 blank sheets as a team. Metsa and the Bobcats led both the league and the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 0.93 goals per-game in 2021-22. The senior blocked 24 shots, and led the team with 34 points, 16 of which came in league play.
The senior has ranked inside the top 3 in the nation all season long in points, assists, and plus/minus amongst defenseman and currently leads all blue-liners in plus/minus rating.
Earlier this week, Perets was named one of three finalists for ECAC Hockey's Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year Award and the league's Player of the Year Award. The net minder also earned his fourth-consecutive ECAC Hockey MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Month award after wrapping up the best statistical season in league history.
Perets earned five wins in the month of February, while once again allowing less than a goal per-game. He finished the month with a 0.89 GAA and .957 save percentage, making 156 saves in the process. He's solidified himself as the top statistical goaltender in the nation in nearly every statistical category.
