Morris' Double-Double Powers Bobcats Past Saint Peter's, 58-48

JERSEY CITY, NJ. – Quinnipiac women's basketball earned its first MAAC road win of the 2022-23 campaign, downing Saint Peter's, 58-48, Thursday afternoon inside of the Victor R. Yanitelli, S.J. Recreational Life Center in a rematch between 2022 MAAC Quarterfinals opponents.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 7-5 overall on the season and 2-1 in the MAAC, while the Peacocks fell to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Mikala Morris led the way for Quinnipiac with 15 points and 13 rebounds for the double-double, as well as a career-high six blocks. Jackie Grisdale added 12 points of her own in the victory.
The Bobcats were able to overcome a slow offensive start and used its defense to jump out to a 6-2 lead within the first six minutes of action. Holding a 6-4 lead, Quinnipiac used the final 1:50 of play to go on a 10-0 run, capped by a buzzer-beater three-pointer from Jackie Grisdale to extend the lead to 16-4 entering the second quarter.
After Saint Peter's cut the Quinnipiac lead to 16-6, the Bobcats kept the pressure on with a 10-1 run, led by a three-point play from Cur'Tiera Haywood and a bucket from Ella O'Donnell to push the lead to 26-7 nearly midway through the frame.
The Bobcats held the Peacocks to seven points the rest of the half, carrying a 30-14 lead into halftime. Saint Peter's 14 points at the break is the least amount of points Quinnipiac has allowed an opponent to score in a half this season.
Quinnipiac maintained its dominance into the second half, using a 12-0 run while already leading 30-16 to extend its lead to 42-16 into the under five-minute media timeout.
After Saint Peter's went on a swift 5-0 run, the Bobcats closed the quarter with a 5-0 run of their own to carry a 47-21 lead into the fourth quarter.
The deficit proved to be too much to overcome for the Peacocks, as the Bobcats held strong for the eventual 58-48 victory.
