Baskerville Leads Bobcats' Charge in 69-55 Win Over Manhattan

HAMDEN, Conn. – Led by Mary Baskerville's 17 points, five rebounds and five steals, the Quinnipiac women's basketball team snapped its two-game slide, defeating MAAC foe Manhattan, 69-55, Monday evening inside of M&T Bank Arena.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 6-5 overall on the season and 1-1 in the MAAC, while the Jaspers fell to 3-10 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Baskerville led the way for Quinnipiac with 17 points and five steals, while Cur'Tiera Haywood added 10 points of her own. Rose Caverly, Ella O'Donnell and Mikala Morris added nine points apiece.
The Bobcats used the opening 6:39 of the the contest to hold Manhattan to six points on 3-for-15 (20.0%) shooting, jumping out to a 14-6 lead during the span, with the run capped by a three-pointer from Cur'Tiera Haywood.
Quinnipiac allowed Manhattan to score just eight points in the opening frame, as the Bobcats carried a 17-8 lead into the second quarter.
The Bobcats opened the second quarter with a swift 5-0 run, opening up a 22-8 lead for Quinnipiac. However, the Jaspers responded with a 9-2 run of their own to trim the Bobcats lead to 24-17 at the under five-minute media timeout. However, Quinnipiac remained unwavered, closing the half with a 7-1 run to take a 31-20 lead into the break.
Quinnipiac maintained momentum into the third quarter, opening the frame with a 12-5 run powered by old-fashioned three-point plays from Mikala Morris and Mary Baskerville to extend the Bobcats' lead to 43-25 with 5:00 remaining in the period. However the Jaspers closed the frame with a 13-0 run to trim Quinnipiac's lead to 43-38 entering the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats responded in the fourth quarter, using a 15-7 run to extend the lead to 58-45 with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.
Manhattan refused to go away, going on a late 13-8 run to trim Quinnipiac's lead to 64-55 with 1:55 remaining in regulation. However, the lead proved to be too much, as the Bobcats held on for the eventual 69-55 victory.
