
Bobcats Down Fairfield in Orlando to Win 2022 MAAC Title

Quinnipiac Captures First League Title in Program-History
ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 6 Quinnipiac women's volleyball defeated top-seeded Fairfield, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida to capture the 2022 MAAC title.
The Bobcats will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program-history with the victory, marking the fourth Quinnipiac fall sport to earn a MAAC title in 2022.
Ginevra Giovagnoni led the Bobcats with 15 kills and 12 digs for a double-double, while Yagmur Gunes posted a double-double of her own with 11 kills and 18 digs. Nicole Legg contributed 14 kills and five blocks in the victory, while Damla Gunes poured in 48 assists and eight digs.
Diaz claimed MAAC Tournament MVP honors, while Damla Gunes and Giovagnoni were both named to the 2022 MAAC All-Championship team at the conclusion of the tournament.

SET ONE (26-24, Quinnipiac)
The two sides traded points to a 19-19 tie before back-to-back kills from Nicole Legg and Yagmur Gunes pushed the Bobcats ahead 21-19, forcing a timeout from the Stags. Out of the timeout, Quinnipiac pushed its lead to 23-19 before Fairfield scored two straight points to trim the deficit to 23-21 to force a Bobcats' timeout.
After Fairfield tied the set at 24-24, Lexi Morse and Aryanah Diaz scored back-to-back kills to take the first set 26-24.
SET TWO (17-25)
Quinnipiac came out on fire, jumping out to a 6-1 set before the Stags burned their first timeout of the set. Out of the break, Fairfield went on an 8-2 run to take a 9-8 lead to force a Quinnipiac timeout. Out of the timeout, the Stags built their lead to 17-12 and never looked back, taking the set 25-17.
SET THREE (25-22)
The two sides traded points to a 15-15 tie in the set before Fairfield crept out ahead, 19-16. The Bobcats battled back to tie the set at 21-21 before playing to a 22-22 tie in the set. However, the Bobcats took the set after back-to-back kills from Legg and Yagmur Gunes, followed by a Fairfield attack error to go up 2-1.
SET FOUR (25-17)
Quinnipiac maintained momentum entering the fourth set, taking a swift 4-0 lead before Fairfield called a timeout in the set. Out of the break, Quinnipiac pushed its lead to 6-0 behind a Stags attack error and a service ace from Aryanah Diaz to force Fairfield to burn its final timeout of the set. Fairfield slowly crept back into the set, cutting the deficit to 18-15 before Quinnipiac called a timeout to regroup. Out of the break, the Bobcats went on a 6-2 run to take the set and win its first MAAC title in program history.
