
Fourth Set Rally Pushes No. 6 Bobcats Past No. 3 Iona in MAAC Quarterfinals

ORLANDO, Fla. – Behind double-doubles from three different student-athletes, the No. 6 Quinnipiac volleyball team upset No. 3 Iona in four sets in the MAAC Quarterfinals held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports on Thursday evening. With the victory, the Bobcats advance to their third MAAC Semifinals match in four seasons.
Aryanah Diaz, Ginevra Giovagnoni and Yagmur Gunes led the Bobcats with a double-double apiece in the match. Diaz compiled 14 kills and 23 digs, while Giovagnoni added 17 kills and 21 digs and Gunes totaled 12 kills and 16 digs.

SET ONE (25-23, Quinnipiac)
The two sides traded points to a 9-9 tie in the set before a 6-3 Quinnipiac run put the Bobcats ahead 15-12 at the media timeout. However, Iona responded with a 4-0 run out of the break to force a Quinnipiac timeout trailing 16-15.
The Bobcats countered with a 4-0 run of their own behind a kill from Diaz, two service aces from Ginevra Giovagnoni and an Iona attack error. Iona responded with a second 4-0 run to push the Gaels ahead 21-20 to force a QU timeout. With the set tied at 23-23, back-to-back kills from Diaz and Giovagnoni sealed the set win for QU.
SET TWO (18-25)
Quinnipiac found themselves trailing 7-2 early in the set before calling a timeout. The Bobcats battled back to trim the deficit to 10-8 before falling behind 17-11 and calling a second timeout in the set. Quinnipiac never recovered in the set, falling 25-18.
SET THREE (25-23)
Quinnipiac jumped out to a 7-2 lead before Iona fought back to take a 15-13 lead into the media timeout. Out of the timeout, Quinnipiac went on a 6-1 run to take a 19-17 lead, forcing an Iona timeout. With the set tied at 19-19, Quinnipiac went on a 5-1 run to go up 24-20 before Iona crept back into the set at 24-23. Out of the timeout Diaz scored a kill to secure the set win for Quinnipiac.
SET FOUR (25-17)
Iona came out on fire and opened the set with a swift 10-1 advantage. The Bobcats responded with a 12-3 run, powered by three kills from Diaz to tie the set at 14-14 and forcing an Iona timeout. Out of the timeout, the Bobcats went on a 5-1 run to push ahead 19-15. Iona never recovered, as the Bobcats went on to take the set, 25-17 and match, 3-1.
