#4 Bobcats Edged by #9 Clarkson

HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team was edged by No. 9/9 Clarkson on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-2. Quinnipiac trailed 2-0 to open the third period but came back to get within on goal of the Golden Knights. Clarkson held on to a 3-2 lead, and the Bobcats were unable to complete the comeback.
Sophomore Nina Steigauf and senior Lexie Adzija scored for Quinnipiac. Graduate student Corinne Schroeder made 36 saves in the net for the Bobcats.
Clarkson's Gabrielle David, Florence Lessard and Nicole Gosling lit the lamp, and Caitrin Lonergan tallied her 200th career point.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (9:11, 2nd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 0, Clarkson 1: The Golden Knights scored first off a breakaway. Gabrielle David and Caitrin Lonergan recovered the puck in the neutral zone and took off towards Quinnipiac's goal. Lonergan passed to David, and she skated past Schroeder to give Clarkson a 1-0 lead.
- (1:30, 3rd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 0, Clarkson 2: Florence Lessard gave Clarkson a 2-0 lead early in the third period and was assisted by Laurence Frenette and Baylee Kirwan.
- (2:21, 3rd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 1, Clarkson 2: The Bobcats got on the board in the third period, as Nina Steigauf recovered the puck from Clarkson right in the slot and shot past Michelle Pasiechnyk.
- (3:34, 3rd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 1, Clarkson 3: Nicole Gosling scored a rocket right off a faceoff to give Clarkson a two-goal lead. Florence Lessard tallied the helper after winning the faceoff.
- (6:48, 3rd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 2, Clarkson 3: The Bobcats came within one goal of the Golden Knights later in the third period. Junior Kate Reilly retrieved a pass from Adzija and sent the puck to the corner to first-year Maya Labad. Labad sent a pass to Adzija on the opposite side of the goal and she sent it home.
- Quinnipiac dropped just its third game of the season today. The Bobcats hold a 7-2 ECAC Hockey record and are in second place behind Clarkson, who picked up two conference wins this weekend.
- Steigauf scored her second goal of 2022 and ninth of the season. She now has 13 points this year on nine goals and four assists.
- Adzija tallied her fifth goal of the year and has notched 17 points this season.
- Reilly and Labad added helpers on Adzija's goal.
- Sophomore Olivia Mobley led the Bobcats with six shots on net.
- The Golden Knights outshot the Bobcats, 39-23.
- The faceoffs were fairly even today – Quinnipiac held the edge, winning 28 of 55 (51%).
The Bobcats will hit the road to take on Union and RPI next weekend, Jan. 14-15.
