Incoming Men's Hockey first year selected in seventh round
HAMDEN, Conn. - Incoming men's ice hockey student-athlete Sam Lipkin (incoming class of 2022) was selected as the 223rd pick in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. Lipkin is the 17th player in Quinnipiac history to be selected in the NHL Draft and the second in as many years, following Ty Smilanic's selection last year.
Lipkin currently plays for the Chicago Steel in the USHL where he tallied 11 points in 30 games last season. His talents were also showcased at the U.S. National Collegiate Development Camp where he recorded 25 points in 19 games for the New Jersey Rockets.
"We're thrilled for Sam and his family on this great accomplishment and look forward to watching his continued development with the Chicago Steel this season as he prepares for a productive Quinnipiac career, said Quinnipiac head coach Rand Pecknold."
The Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania native will arrive in Hamden for the 2022-23 season after one more year with Chicago.
