
Mayanja, Metsa Share Men's Ice Hockey's Coaches' Award

Pair of Bobcats Provided Invaluable Leadership Both On and Off the Ice

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior Josh Mayanja (Framingham, Massachusetts) and junior Zach Metsa (Delafield, Wisconsin) were named co-winners of the Coaches' Award, as selected by the men's ice hockey coaching staff.
Mayanja and Metsa have truly dedicated themselves to Quinnipiac men's ice hockey throughout their respective time with the team.
Mayanja has been one of the most positive locker room influences and fan favorites on the team, drawing roars from the crowd and bench whenever he enters the game. He also played a critical role in the team's relationship with Team IMPACT teammate Michael Torello.
On the ice, Mayanja played in a career-high four games as a senior in 2020-21. He made a career-high seven saves in 6:27 of ice time against Holy Cross on Dec. 22. Overall, Mayanja made 12 saves in 15:12 of ice time this season.
Mayanja graduated this weekend with a BA in Mathematics.
Metsa has solidified himself as a top-two defenseman for the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team due to his hard work on the ice and in the weight room. He also has been a standout in the classroom, graduating with a BS in Finance this weekend after just three years.
He stepped up his play as a junior this season after a breakout sophomore campaign. Metsa set career-highs with five goals, 21 assists and 26 points as well as three power-play goals.
Metsa tied for 10th overall in the nation in assists, and led the nation's defensemen in assists and points as well as power-play assists and power-play points. He also tied for 12th in goals.
