HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team concludes its regular season schedule as it heads to New York state to take on Niagara on Saturday afternoon. The regular season finale can be seen live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats swept two games against Manhattan in their final regular season games of the season. In the first matchup between the two teams, Quinnipiac reached the 20 goal mark for the first time since April 21, 2013 in the 20-14 win. 10 different Bobcats recorded a point and eight Bobcats scored a goal in the win. Graduate student attack Megan Szawlowski recorded her second consecutive game of seven points, matching her career high. The Holyoke, Mass. native scored four goals and dished out three assists for the Bobcats. Junior midfielder Sophie Spencer tallied a career-high four points in the win. She matched her career high in goals with three and dished out an assist. Maddie Noel and Maddie Deegan both recorded four points as well. Noel matched her career high in both goals (3) and points (4). Senior defender Annie Hage picked up a career-high three ground balls for the Bobcats and also caused one turnover. Nine other Bobcats picked up a ground ball in a team-wide defensive effort for Quinnipiac. Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Henselder continued her breakout season for Quinnipiac as she stopped 12 shots for the Bobcats. Sophia Iaccino picked up seven draw controls and scored three goals in the Bobcat win.
In the rematch, the Bobcats picked up a 15-11 win to finish undefeated at home for the first time in program history. Junior midfielder Gabby Beckett tallied five first half assists on her way to setting a new career high of six. She added a goal to also set a new career high in points with seven. Sophomore defender Melissa Murphy recorded a career-high seven ground balls. Overall, the Bobcats were stout defensively picking up 21 ground balls and forcing 13 turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Henselder tallied 10 saves in the victory. Graduate student Megan Szawlowski tallied her seventh game of at least three goals and added an assist for four points on the day. Four Bobcats scored two goals as Emily Feeney, Maddie Noel, Maddie Deegan and Sophia Iaccino each found the back of the net twice. Feeney added an assist for a three point day.
SCOUTING NIAGARA
The Purple Eagles come into Saturday's matchup on a four-game win streak to push their overall record to 6-3. In the past four games, Niagara has beaten Canisius three times and Marist once. Goalkeeper Michelle Messenger is the reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week as she only had a 5.47 goals against average in the Purple Eagles three-game sweep of Canisius. On the season, Messenger has made 83 saves and has allowed just under 10 goals per game. Offensively, midfielder Shea Swartwout leads Niagara in goals (28), assists (9) and points (37).
ALL-TIME VS. NIAGARA
The Bobcats are 1-6 all-time against the Purple Eagles. The last matchup was a 15-14 victory for Niagara in Hamden.
DEFENDING HOME TURF
For the first time in program history, the Bobcats finished the home portion their of schedule undefeated after Sunday's victory over Manhattan. Quinnipiac is a perfect 5-0 at home in the 2021 campaign.
MAAC WEEKLY AWARDS
Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Henselder and first-year attack Maddie Noel received MAAC Weekly Awards, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, April 14.
Henselder was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week. In two wins against Manhattan, the Lindenhurst, N.Y. native made 22 saves and picked up eight ground balls. In Friday's matchup, the sophomore goalkeeper made 12 saves and picked up two ground balls in the win. In Sunday's rematch, Henselder made 10 saves and picked up a career-high six ground balls in the victory.
Noel was named MAAC Rookie of the Week. In the two victories over the Jaspers, the Syracuse, N.Y. native recorded five goals and six points. In Friday's meeting against Manhattan, Noel matched her career high in goals with three and points with four in Quinnipiac's 20-14 victory. In the rematch on Sunday, the first year found the back of the net twice in the Bobcats' 15-11 win.
DISHING OUT THE ASSISTS
Three Bobcats are in the top-10 in assists per game in the MAAC. Gabby Beckett is second with 1.8, Megan Szawlowski is sixth with 1.2, and Emily Feeney is eighth with 1.0.
MEGAN'S MILESTONE
Megan Szawlowski eclipsed the 100 point mark in her Quinnipiac career on April 2 against Siena as she recorded a career-high seven points in the game. In her two-plus years in Hamden, she has scored 79 goals and added 33 assists for 112 career points.
'SPECIAL' TEAMS
In penalty situations, Quinnipiac is one of the best teams in the MAAC in dealing with them. The Bobcats are tied for first with three player-down goals this season. They are first in the conference in player-up goals per game, and have scored the most overall.
KAT HAS YOUR BACK
Goalkeeper Kat Henselder currently sits at third in the country in saves per game with 11.70. She has made the most saves of anyone in the MAAC this season.
CAREER DAYS
In the weekend series vs. Iona, multiple Bobcats recorded career days. In Friday's matchup, Gabby Beckett matched her career high with five points. Sophia Iaccino recorded a career-high eight draw controls in the double overtime win. First year Kalie Moore tallied the first two points of her career, scoring a goal and dishing out an assist on Friday. On Sunday, Megan Szawlowski tied her career highs in points with six and assists with three. Sophia Iaccino scored a career-high four goals and sophomore goalkeeper Kat Henselder stopped a career-high 15 shots between the pipes for the Bobcats. Henselder then upped her career high to 16 vs. Monmouth. Szawlowski then set a new career high in points with four goals and three assists for seven points at Siena. Annie Hage picked up a career-high three ground balls in the first game against Manhattan. Gabby Beckett recorded two new career highs in assists and points in the rematch against Manhattan. Beckett dished out six assists and recorded seven points. Melissa Murphy set a new career high in ground balls in Sunday's game against Manhattan with seven.

Sophomore midfielder Sophia Iaccino is near the top of the MAAC in multiple stat categories. The Farmingdale, N.Y. native is fourth with 2.7 ground balls per game, fifth with 1.4 caused turnovers per game and third with 5.0 draw controls per game.
THE BOBCATS IN 2020
In a pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Quinnipiac posted a record of 3-4. The Bobcats tallied wins against LIU, Bryant and Old Dominion. The win against ODU was the program's first win against a BIG EAST foe.

FIFTH YEAR UNDER KOTOWICZ
Head Coach Tanya Kotowicz enters her fifth season at the helm of the Bobcats. Under Kotowicz, the Bobcats have brought in two straight first year classes that have made an immediate impact. In 2020, midfielders Desiree Kleberg and Sophia Iaccino both earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors. Kleberg earned the award twice while Iaccino earned the award once. In 2019, the Bobcats had two MAAC All-Rookie Team selections as midfielders Gabby Beckett and Maddie Deegan were given the honor. Since Kotowicz's first season in 2017, the Bobcats have improved every season in total and conference wins, including one birth in the MAAC tournament.
THE RETURN OF SWAZ
Graduate attack Megan Szawlowski returns in 2021 for the Bobcats. She was Quinnipiac's leading scorer from a season ago, recording 21 points from 17 goals and four assists. In her two-plus seasons with the Bobcats, the Holyoke, Mass. native has 60 goals and 21 assists.
MIDFIELD MASTERCLASS
Nine of the 10 returning top scorers for the Bobcats all come from the midfield position. Juniors Gabby Beckett and Maddie Deegan were named to the 2019 MAAC All-Rookie Team. The pair of them recorded 25 combined points one season ago. Sophomores Desiree Kleberg and Sophia Iaccino both earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors a season ago. Kleberg and Iaccino combined for 23 points in 2019.
NEWCOMERS, WELCOME TO HAMDEN
The Bobcats welcome seven new faces to the squad for the 2021 season. Transfer Annie Morrison and first years Julia Steneck, Chelsea Akins, Kelly Bergersen, Maddie Noel, Kalie Moore and Hadley Bosworth are all entering their first season's as Bobcats.
