Bobcats Drop Two at Saint Peter's

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Quinnipiac softball team dropped both games in the Sunday doubleheader at Saint Peter's on April 18. The Bobcats lost the first game 12-5 and the second game 6-5. Quinnipiac is now 6-16 and Saint Peter's holds a 2-10 overall record.
Senior Brighid Douglas led the Bobcats on offense. Douglas went 4-8 with two RBIs and two doubles. In the circle, first-years Julia Woeste and Tori McGraw pitched 12 innings with two strikeouts. Saint Peter's Kane led the Peacocks in the first game with four RBIs, going 3-3.
Game 1 (L, 5-12):
First Inning - Quinnipiac would get on the board first in the opening inning. After Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez and senior Kayla Jensen were walked, first-year Kayla Thomas hit a double to right center, allowing Rodriguez to score.
Fifth Inning - The Bobcats would not get back on the board until the fifth inning with Saint Peter's leading, 9-1. Jensen was on third after hitting a single to lead off the inning, and she later scored on a Peacocks' error. With the bases loaded, junior Bridget Nasir singled to the pitcher, recording an RBI as first-year Karolyn Walker scored.
Sixth Inning - Quinnipiac added two more runs in the sixth inning to take the score to 12-5 in favor of the Peacocks. Rodriguez continued her strong hitting with a double to lead off. Jensen later singled, and Rodriguez scored off an error. Jensen would also add a run after a sacrifice line out to left field by Walker.
The Peacocks would hold on to win, 12-5, in the first game of the Sunday MAAC doubleheader.
Notable Stats:
First Inning - Quinnipiac scored a run in first inning off a single from Jense with Walker on third. Jensen tallied an RBI as Walker went home to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Fifth Inning - Rodriguez hit a single to center, and Walker was walked to open the top of the fifth's action. Senior Brighid Douglas hit a double, good for two RBIs, as Walker and Rodriguez scored. This took the game's score to 6-3 in favor of Saint Peter's.
Sixth Inning - The Bobcats' inched closer to the Peacocks' lead after first-year Gianna Palmisano hit a double and Nasir was walked. Nasir stole second and Palmisano advanced to score on the play. Nasir later scored an unearned run off an error by Saint Peter's catcher.
The Peacocks held the Bobcats off late in the game again and earned the 6-5 win in the end.

Quinnipiac will travel to Iona on Wednesday, April 21 for a mid-week MAAC doubleheader to complete the season series.
