Gonzalez Leads Bobcats in 6-5 Win over Iona

Bobcats split with Gaels in Mid-Week Action
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Quinnipiac softball team split a mid-week doubleheader with the MAAC-leading Iona Gaels. The Bobcats dropped the first game, 7-1, but came storming back to win the second game, 6-5. Quinnipiac is now 7-17 overall, and Iona holds the first spot in the MAAC standings with a 15-8 record.
Sophomore Cy Gonzalez led the Bobcats in the 6-5 win, going 3-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez hit her first home run of the season the Bobcats' win. In the circle, Tori McGraw picked up her fourth win of the season and is 4-2 on the year.
Game 1 (L, 1-7):
Second Inning - Quinnipiac would get on the board in the second inning. Junior Hannah Davis was walked and later reached second off a sacrifice by junior Bridget Nasir. Davis advanced to third and sophomore Sydney Tedim reached first off an error. Sophomore Cy Gonzalez grounded out to second, recording an RBI as Davis scored. The Gaels would go on to score seven runs to earn the 7-1 victory.
Notable Stats:
Second Inning - The Bobcats opened the scoring in the second inning taking a 2-0 lead. With Nasir and Tedim on second and third base, Gonzalez hit a single to center field, recording two RBIs as Tedim and Nasir scored.
Third Inning - Senior Brighid Douglas got the inning started with a single up the middle. First-year Karolyn Walker was walked, and first-year Kayla Thomas singled to third, allowing Douglas to score.
Fourth Inning - Quinnipiac added two more runs in the fourth, taking the score to 5-2. With Jensen and Gonzalez on base, sophomore Katherine Rodriguez hit a three-run homerun.
Fifth Inning - With Gonzalez on base, Douglas singled through the left side allowing Gonzalez to score. The Bobcats would lead 6-4 going into the seventh inning. Iona would score one run in the bottom of the seventh, but Quinnipiac would hold on to win, 6-5.
Notable Stats:
Quinnipiac will be back in Hamden to host Canisius on Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25.
