Bobcats Continue MAAC Play against Iona, Canisius

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team is set to compete in six MAAC games over the course of the next four days. The Bobcats will travel to Iona for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 22 at 1 p.m. This weekend, Quinnipiac will host Canisius for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.

Last Time Out
Quinnipiac split a weekend series with Saint Peter's, going 2-2 in Jersey City. The Bobcats swept the first doubleheader, 3-2 and 4-1. Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez went 3-3 in the first game with one run, one double and one RBI. In the second game, first-year Kayla Thomas went 2-4 with one RBI. Over the course of four games against the Peacocks, senior Brghid Douglas went 6-16 (3.75) with three doubles and two RBIs. In the circle, both first-years Julia Woeste and Tori McGraw earned a win.
Scouting Iona
The Gaels faced the Bobcats last Wednesday, April 14, going 1-1. This past weekend Iona swept Rider through four games. Jessica Chilcott leads the Gaels with a .377 average with 19 runs, 26 hits, eight doubles, eight home runs and 19 RBIs. Kara Zazzaro holds a 2.83 ERA in the circle with a 12-2 record and 123 strikeouts.
Scouting Canisius
The Golden Griffs recently competed against Siena in a four-game series; the Griffs came away with one win and three losses. Kara Paradowski leads the Griffs with a .328 average with 15 runs, 20 hits, one triple and eight RBIs. Megan Giese holds a 2.08 ERA, going 2-3 with 43 strikeouts in the circle. Emily Nicosia also has pitched for the Griffs with a 2.61 ERA, a 3-3 record and 40 strikeouts.
Bobcats' Stats
Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez continues to lead the Bobcats on offense with a .351 average with 15 runs, 27 hits, seven doubles, one triple and 13 RBIs. First-years Kayla Thomas, Karolyn Walker and Cy Gonzalez have also had strong performances for Quinnipiac. Thomas led the Bobcats through four games against Saint Peter's, going 6-16 with two doubles and four RBIs. Walker tallied four and three RBIs against the Peacocks. Gonzalez went 2-3 with one run and three RBIs in the Bobcats' 9-1 win over Iona. McGraw pitched a complete game and her second win of the season against Iona. Woeste added a win of her own in the Bobcats' 3-2 win against the Peacocks.
A Look at the MAAC
Iona holds the top spot in the MAAC standings. Siena, Manhattan and Monmouth make up the rest of the top four. Fairfield, Rider and Canisius hold the middle spots of the conference standings. Quinnipiac and Niagara are in a tight battle for the eighth spot, both teams recording six wins so far this season.
