Softball Takes Two from the Peacocks

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Quinnipiac Bobcats swept the Saint Peter's Peacocks in a Saturday doubleheader on the road. This is the first Saturday sweep for the Bobcats this season, and the team will look to complete the full-weekend sweep tomorrow as the teams will meet for two more games in Jersey City. Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez led the Bobcats, going 5-7 with two RBIs and one run. First-year pitchers Julia Woeste and Tori McGraw each earned a win and tallied six strikeouts on the day.
Highlights Game 1 (W, 3-2):
First Inning - Quinnipiac scored one run in the first inning. Senior Kayla Jensen was walked and then stole second. Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez flied out to right field on a sacrifice and sent Jensen home.
Third Inning - The Bobcat hit three singles in a row to open the third inning. Sophomore Cy Gonzalez, Jensen and Rodriguez all recorded hits to open the inning. First-year Karolyn Walker was walked, recording an RBI, as Gonzalez scored.
Seventh Inning - Rodriguez added another run to take the Bobcats' lead to 3-1 after Walker hit an RBI-single.
Notable Stats:
Third Inning - Quinnipiac took the lead again in the second game in the third inning. Senior Brighid Douglas hit a double to center field to get the offense going. First-year Kayla Thomas hit an RBI-single to send Douglas home.
Fourth Inning - The Bobcats tallied another run in the fourth inning. Junior Bridget Nasir was walked and later scored off a fielder's choice play initiated by Jensen.
Sixth Inning - Gonzalez scored an unearned run in the sixth to give Quinnipiac a 4-1 lead and the eventual win.
