Bobcats Travel to Jersey City to Take on Saint Peter's

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team will travel to Jersey City, N.J., to take on the Saint Peter's Peacocks April 17-18. The Bobcats are coming off the team's best performance of the season after downing Iona 9-1 in the second game of the mid-week doubleheader.

Last Time Out
Quinnipiac split a mid-week doubleheader with the Iona Gaels on Wednesday, April 14. The Gaels took the first game 6-0 with a dominant performance by pitcher Kara Zazzaro, who threw eight strikeouts. The Bobcats came out firing in the second game winning 9-1 in five innings. Quinnipiac had season-highs in hits (14) and runs (9). First-year Tori McGraw earned her second win of the season in the circle. Senior Brighid Douglas went 2-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and sophomore Cy Gonzalez recorded three RBIs with one run going 2-3.
Scouting Saint Peter's
The Peacocks are 0-8 on the season after facing Manhattan, Siena and Rider. Saint Peter's had a delay at the beginning of its season due to COVID-19 protocols. Most recently, the Peacocks lost to Rider on Wednesday, April 14, 9-0 and 8-2. Sophie Wilson leads the team with a .286 batting average, and Katie Sciglimpaglia has eight hits, one run and four RBIs.
Series History
The Bobcats hold s 17-4 record against the Peacocks. The last lost came in April of 2017. Quinnipiac last hosted Saint Peter's on April 1, 2019 and took both games in the doubleheader.
Bobcats' Stats
Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez continues her strong play on offense for the Bobcats, leading the team with a .355 average, 11 runs, 22 hits, five doubles, one triple, and 11 RBIs. First-year Kayla Thomas has also consistently lifted the Bobcats' offense as she has a team-leading 18 RBIs, which is ranked third in the MAAC. First-year Julia Woeste tied her season-high of four strikeouts against the Gaels on April 14. McGraw pitched five innings (run-rule game) against Iona and threw two strikeouts and allowed just one run.

The Bobcats added the four-game series coming up this weekend at Saint Peter's on April 17-18 in Jersey City. Quinnipiac will continue MAAC play next Wednesday, April 21 at Iona for a mid-week doubleheader.
