#10 Women's Ice Hockey Set to Take on #6/6 Colgate in ECAC Semifinal Game

Bobcats travel to Hamilton to take on Raiders
HAMILTON, N.Y. - The No. 10 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team will face the No. 6/6 Colgate Raiders in the 2021 ECAC Semifinal game on Friday, March 5 in Hamilton, N.Y. The Bobcats finished as the No. 4 seed for the playoffs, and Colgate earned the No. 1 seed. The St. Lawrence Saints finished as the second seed and will host the Clarkson Golding Knights. The winners of each semifinal game will meet on Sunday, March 7 for the ECAC Championship game.

Last Time Out
The Bobcats finished the regular season with a 1-1 split against the Raiders. Quinnipiac and Colgate played a back-and-forth game on Friday, Feb. 26. The game remained tied, 2-2, until Colgate's Danielle Serdachny scored the game-winning goal with three minutes remaining in the third period. The Raiders added an empty-net goal to secure the 4-2 win. Senior Taylor Girard and sophomore Sadie Peart scored for the Bobcats.
On Saturday, Feb. 27, the Bobcats can out on fire and score four goals to take a 4-0 lead late into the second period. Colgate added three goals but could not complete the comeback and the Bobcats won, 5-3. Girard, Grace Markey, Laura Lundblad, Taylor House and Brooke Bonsteel all scored in the 5-3 win. Redshirt-sophomore Logan Angers made a career-high 42 saves.

The Colgate Raiders secured the No. 1 seed after the conclusion of the regular season with a conference record of 8-4-0 and an overall record of 13-6-1. Colgate and Quinnipiac met just a week ago in Hamden and each team took home a win. The Raiders dropped one spot in the national polls after last weekend's games and currently stands as the No. 6/6 team in the nation.
Sophomore Danielle Serdachny leads the team with 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. She tallied four points through two games against the Bobcats last weekend. Noemi Neubauerova and Kalty Kaltounkova are right behind Serdachny with 16 and 15 points each. In the net for the Raiders, Kayle Osborne has played in 20 games and has recorded a .925 saver percentage with a 1.76 goals against average.
Last Time Against the Raiders
The Bobcats and Raiders met twice to finish the regular season Feb. 26-27. Each team earned three points with Colgate winning the first game, 4-2, and Quinnipiac winning the second, 5-3. The Bobcats avenged their first two losses against Colgate earlier this season and came out firing against the Raiders. Quinnipiac tallied both games' first goals. The Raiders outshot the Bobcats in both games. Quinnipiac netted the only power play goal from either team in the 5-3 win.
Girard Picking Up Steam
Senior Taylor Girard has been unstoppable late in the season. The senior forward is on a six-game point streak and has recorded 8 points in the last six games. She has netted a goal in four of the last five games, including one game winner. She is second on the team in points (7-8-15) and has a +8 on-ice rating.
The Faceoff Queen
Junior Lexie Adzija dominated the faceoff circle this season. She finished the season with the best faceoff winning percentage at 66% and notched 200 wins through 15 games played. She won her individual faceoff battle in every game played but one. Her season-high for faceoff wins for a single game was 21 wins and five losses (81%) in an overtime win vs Clarkson. The next closest player to Adzija's season winning percentage was Colgate's Serdachny, who won 60% of her faceoffs.
Mobley on a Roll
First-year forward Olivia Mobley recorded three assists in the Bobcats' 5-3 win over Colgate on Feb. 27. The rookie tallied six points through the month of February and received the ECAC's Rookie of the Month award.
Vorster Named 'Best Defenseman' Finalist
Redshirt sophomore Courtney Vorster was named a finalist for the ECAC Best Defenseman Award. She has tallied 10 points on three goals and seven assists to lead the Quinnipiac defensive core. Colgate's Tanner Gates received the award on March 4.
Defense to Offense
The Bobcats defensive core has a combined 43 points on the season. Vorster leads the defense with 10 points, and first-year Kendall Cooper is not far behind with nine points. Sophomores Kate Reilly and Alexa Hoskin and first-year Maddy Samoskevich all have recorded eight points this season.
Scoring Offense & Defense
The Bobcats still holds one of the top scoring offenses in the nation, averaging 4.07 goals per game, which is the third-best in the county. In addition, Quinnipiac is holding opponents to 1.87 goals per game, which is the tenth-best in the country.
Bobcats Out of the Box
Quinnipiac has recorded just 81 PIM this season through 15 games (5.4 PIM/G), which is ranked as the third lowest PIM/G in the country. Wisconsin and UConn rank just below with 5.2 and 4.2 PIM/G.
Seniors Shine vs Colgate
Five of seven seniors recorded goals against the Raiders in the Bobcats' 5-3 win on Feb. 27. Girard got the scoring started in the first period. The game opened up in the second period as the Bobcats scored three in a row. Seniors Grace Markey, Taylor House and Laura Lundblad all netted goals in the second period. Senior Brooke Bonsteel sealed the game with an empty-netter in the third period.
Back in the Top Ten
The Bobcats were voted back into the USCHO's Division I Women's Poll. This is the first time the Bobcats have been ranked since Dec. 15, 2020. The Bobcats' 5-3 win vs Colgate was the best top-ten victory for the program since Nov. 21, 2014 when the team defeated Clarkson, who was No. 5 at the time. Quinnipiac earned its second win against a ranked opponent this season with the win vs Colgate.
Recognizing the First Years
Mobley, Cooper and Samoskevich all rank in the top-20 in the country for rookie points per game. In addition, the Bobcats have earned an ECAC Weekly award in all but two of the weeks the awards have been present, and all of the award recipients have been first years. Netminder Catie Boudiette has earned the Goalie and Rookie of the Week award. Kendall Cooper, Olivia Mobley and Maddy Samoskevich have all been named the Rookie of the Week. The Bobcats have been represented in the weekly awards for four straight weeks.
Adzija Featured on the Kaz Watch
Lexie Adzija was featured on the USA Hockey Foundation's "Kaz Watch" series, which highlights players from around the country who have the potential to be nominated for the award. "There are so many incredible players in women's hockey right now," Adzija said. "I've worked extremely hard over the years and the fact that my name is even being considered is a special feeling, I really can't describe it."
Markey Making Moves On and Off the Ice
Senior forward Grace Markey has been nominated for the 2021 Hockey Humanitarian Award. She is one of just six collegiate hockey players, male or female, to be nominated. Markey is the team's community service representative and is one of the community service leaders on campus. The senior has recorded three goals and three assists for six points this season.
