Bobcats Fall at Saint Peter's

Soares, Weigand Score in Jersey City
JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Quinnipiac men's soccer battled back to force overtime on Monday afternoon at Saint Peter's, but the Bobcats fell by the final score of 3-2 in MAAC play.
Sophomore Henry Weigend scored with just 17 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Senior Paulo Soares also scored for the Bobcats in the first half.
Saint Peter's scored once early in the first half, once early in the second half, then Anton Moore netted the game-winner for the Peacocks off a set piece in the 99th minute of play.

- (12' – Saint Peter's 1, Quinnipiac 0): Saint Peter's drew a foul inside the box, then Jordan Jowers blasted home a penalty kick to give the Peacocks an early 1-0 advantage.
- (35' – Quinnipiac 1, Saint Peter's 1): The Bobcats tied the game at 34:15. David Bercedo carried the ball in toward the right side of the box, played a shot in on the Saint Peter's keeper, then Paulo Soares came in from the left side to one-time a deflection into the back of the net. The goal is Soares' first of the year.
- (57' – Saint Peter's 2, Quinnipiac 1): Jamie Davis scored for Saint Peter's less than 15 minutes into the second half to give the Peacocks a 2-1 lead.
- (90' – Quinnipiac 2, Saint Peter's): The Bobcats scored with just 17 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Alexander Kyrkjeeide lobbed a ball into the box, then sophomore Henry Weigand headed it past the right side of the Saint Peter's keeper to tie the game.
- (99' – Saint Peter's 3, Quinnipiac 2): Anton Moore scored the winner for SPU in overtime, finding the back of the net off a set piece after a foul was called.
- The Bobcats outshot Saint Peter's 13-12. Quinnipiac earned six corner chances.
- Saint Peter's Tom Climpson received a red card in the 53rd minute, forcing the Peacocks to play the remainder of the game a man down.
- Quinnipiac has now scored eight goals, coming from eight different players in the spring 2021 season.
- The goal for Paulo Soares is the second of his career. He also scored one goal as a first-year player in 2018.
- Henry Weigand also scored his second career goal for the Bobcats. He scored once as a first-year back in 2019.
- First-year Alexander Kyrkjeeide picked up his first collegiate point, assisting on Weigand's equalizer at the end of regulation.
- The Bobcats are scheduled to return to Hamden on Thursday, April 1, hosting Rider at 2:30 PM to continue MAAC play.
