Senior Duo Mark First Time with Two Finalists in Same Season in Program History
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior captain Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) and senior goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) have been named Top 10 Finalists for the 2021 Hobey Baker Award, as announced on Wednesday, March 17.
Quinnipiac is one of three schools with two Top 10 Finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, joining Boston College and the University of Wisconsin. Tufto is one of five forwards among the finalists and Petruzzelli is one of four goaltenders.
Tufto and Petruzzelli mark the first time that Quinnipiac has had two players named as finalists for the Hobey Baker Award in the same season in program history. The duo are the third and fourth players to be named finalists for the award in program history, joining Chasse Priskie '19 in 2018-19 and Reid Cashman '07 in the 2004-05 season.
The duo are the only ECAC Hockey players to be named finalists.
Phase II of the fan voting also opens on March 18, and fans are encouraged to vote once per day from now to March 28. Head over to hobeybaker.com/vote to cast your vote for Odeen and Keith.
Tufto leads the nation with 38 assists and 1.41 assists per game as well as a .631 faceoff percentage. He also leads all skaters with 20 power-play assists and is tied for the national lead with 22 power-play points.
Earlier this season, Tufto recorded a 12-game point streak from Dec. 19-Jan. 15 which tied for the longest point streak in the nation. It was the longest point streak by a Bobcat since Sam Anas '17 had a 16-game point streak in the 2015-16 season.
Petruzzelli has been one of the top netminders in the nation in 2020-21 as he is tied for fourth in the nation with 17 wins and four shutouts. He also ranks sixth with a 1.78 GAA and 11th with a .929 save percentage.
His durability has been on display this season as he leads the nation with 27 games played and started, as well as minutes played at 1581:04. He has made 57 consecutive starts dating back to the 2019-20 season opener.
Earlier this season, Petruzzelli became the 27th goaltender in NCAA Men's Ice Hockey history to record three consecutive shutouts and was the second Quinnipiac men's ice hockey goalie to do so after Michael Garteig '16 in 2015-16. Petruzzelli finished his shutout streak at 201:41, the second-longest streak in program history.
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey returns to the ice on Saturday as the Bobcats chase their second Whitelaw Cup as hosts of the 2021 ECAC Hockey Championship Game against the winner of Thursday's semifinal between St. Lawrence and Colgate.
