#11/12 Men's Ice Hockey Scores Three Goals in Second Period En Route to Win
HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 11/12 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team scored three goals in the second period Friday evening as the Bobcats skated past the St. Lawrence Saints, 3-1, at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena.
Matthew Fawcett (Lincoln, Rhode Island) led the way with his first career two-goal game as he scored two of the Bobcats three goals in the second period onslaught as he tipped a shot from Logan Britt (Crystal Lake, Illinois) for the first goal of the game before tipping home another shot on a breakaway five-and-a-half minutes later.
Britt, Fawcett, Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) and Michael Lombardi (Barrington, Rhode Island) each tallied two point games for the Bobcats as de Jong and Lombardi each had a goal and an assist, while Britt had a pair of assists.
Lombardi's goal stands as the game-winner as he displayed some nifty stick work after making a nice forehand-backhand move as he skated across the crease before roofing the puck with a backhander past St. Lawrence goaltender Emil Zetterquist.
Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) was stellar between the pipes as he turned away shot after shot for the Bobcats. He finished the game with 30 saves on 31 shots, including 13 in the second period as the Bobcats jumped on the Saints for three goals on the other end of the ice.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (10:15, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 1, St. Lawrence 0: Fawcett put the Bobcats on top just past the midway point of the second period as Britt fired the puck from the point off a feed from Lombardi and Fawcett redirected the puck so it trickled past Zetterquist over the goal line for his second of the season.
- (12:31, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 2, St. Lawrence 0: Just over two minutes later, Lombardi scored a goal of his own on a breakaway as Iivari Räsänen (Tampere, Finland) started a breakout from behind the Bobcats goal and hit Ethan Leyh (Anmore, British Columbia) with a pass in the neutral zone. Leyh tapped it to Lombardi who carried it down the left side of the ice before going forehand-backhand and roofing the goal.
- (15:47, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 3, St. Lawrence 0: Fawcett added a second goal with less than five minutes remaining in the second period as Desi Burgart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) carried the puck into the offensive zone and stopped along the boards just past the blue line. He surveyed the ice and waited as Fawcett streaked down the slot before putting a pass right on Fawcett's tape where he tipped the puck past Zetterquist.
- (10:24, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 3, St. Lawrence 1: St. Lawrence got a goal back at the midway point of the third period after a faceoff win in the offensive zone from Cameron Buhl back to Tim Makowski.
