Five seniors score in thrilling 5-3 win vs the Raiders
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team defeated the No. 5/5 Colgate Raiders in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon by a score of 5-3. Five seniors scored in the win – Taylor Girard, Grace Markey, Taylor House, Laura Lundblad and Brooke Bonsteel – and Logan Angers tallied a career-high 43 saves.
The Bobcats dominated the Raiders in the first two period, scoring four straight goals. The Raiders stormed back with a late goal in the second period, and then tallied two goals while skating with an extra player in the third. Quinnipiac sealed the game with an empty-net goal by Bonsteel with 13 seconds remaining in the third period.
First-year Olivia Mobley led the team with a career-high three assists. Girard netted her third goal in three straight games and is currently on a six-game point streak.
Quinnipiac will be on the road for the ECAC Hockey playoffs next Friday, March 5. However, the opponent has yet to be determined. The results of Clarkson and St. Lawrence's final two games Sunday and Monday will impact the team's seeding.
This is the Bobcats second win against a ranked opponent this season; the last win came against No. 9/10 Clarkson on Jan. 23 in a 2-1 overtime win. The is also the best top-ten victory for the program since Nov. 21, 2014 when the Bobcats defeated Clarkson, who was No. 5 at the time.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (14:24, 1st period, EV) – Quinnipiac 1, Colgate 0: Girard scored her third goal in three-straight games in the first period off a couple of rebounds. Mobley shot from the right wing, and redshirt sophomore Courtney Vorster shot the rebound back on net. Mobley came streaking into the net and shot a third shot at Colgate's Kayle Osborne. Girard buried the next rebound and gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
- (9:43, 2nd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 2, Colgate 0: Senior Grace Markey scored on the back door to add a second goal for the Bobcats. From the corner, Mobley found Taylor House, who sent the puck to the back side, and Markey was able to send it home.
- (11:34, 2nd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 3, Colgate 0: Senior Laura Lundblad sniped a top-shelf beauty past Osborne off a great clear from Vorster. Junior Lexie Adzija also added an assist on the goal.
- (18:17, 2nd period, PP) – Quinnipiac 4, Colgate 0: The Bobcats extended the lead to four off a power play goal by Taylor House. Mobley recovered the puck in the neutral zone and found sophomore Alexa Hoskin. Hoskin took the puck in the offensive zone and skated 2-versus-1 with House, who scored off Hoskin's pass.
- (18:39, 2nd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 4, Colgate 1: The Raiders got on the board late in the second period with a goal from Sammy Smigliani, who was assisted by Taylor Kirwan and Nemo Neubauerova.
- (18;14, 3rd period, EX) – Quinnipiac 4, Colgate 2: After pulling Osborne with approximately four minutes to play in the third, the Raiders tallied their second goal of the game. Danielle Serdachny scored an unassisted goal to put the Bobcats' lead at two goals.
- (19:23, 3rd period, EX) – Quinnipiac 4, Colgate 3: Still skating with an extra player, Colgate's Serdachny scored again off a shot from inside the slot to keep the Raiders' hopes alive. Kaitlyn O'Donohoe added a helper.
- (19:47, 3rd period, EX) – Quinnipiac 5, Colgate 2: Senior Brooke Bonsteel recovered the puck off a faceoff in the Bobcats' defensive zone and sent it down the ice to the open net to seal the win for Quinnipiac.
- Girard tallied her third goal in three games. She is currently on a six-game point streak and had recorded 17 points this season.
- All five goal scorers today were seniors and nine different Bobcats recorded at least one point.
- Mobley tallied three assists in the win. The rookie now has eight points on two goals and six assists.
- House and Vorster both picked up two points today.
- Markey scored her fourth goal of the year and has eight points this season. Lundblad recorded her third of the year and now has five points.
- Logan Angers made 43 saves, which is a career-high. She made 21 saves alone in the third period as the Raiders skated with an extra person for 3 minutes and 22 seconds in the final period.
- Colgate outshot Quinnipiac 46-22.
- The Bobcats went 1-2 on the power play, while the Raiders went 0-4.
- The faceoff battle was closer this game, as compared to first game of the weekend. The Bobcats won 52.7% of the faceoffs. Adzija led the way with 12 wins.
