Men's Ice Hockey Moves Up One Spot in Both Polls
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey climbed in the national rankings for a second straight week and are back in the top 10, as announced on Monday, Jan. 18.
Quinnipiac rose from No. 11 in both polls last week and are back in the top 10 for the second time this season. The Bobcats flip-flopped with Omaha in the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll, receiving 454 points, and received 197 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll to move into tenth.
The Bobcats swept Colgate this past weekend with a pair of 3-0 shutouts and have now won four consecutive games to move to 10-4-1 in the nation.
Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) extended his shutout streak to three games, tying Michael Garteig '16 for the most consecutive shutouts in program history. Petruzzelli ran his streak to 198:57, the second-longest consecutive shutout minutes streak since Garteig went 209:31 in 2015-16.
Ty Smilanic (Denver, Colorado) led the Bobcats with two goals on the weekend, recording both on Sunday for his second two-goal game and making him the third player in the nation to record 10 goals.
Petruzzelli was named the ECAC Hockey Player and Goaltender of the Week while Smilanic won his second straight Rookie of the Week Award.
Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) led the Bobcats with three points, all assists, to extend his point streak to a nation-best 12 games, and the longest point streak by a Bobcat since Sam Anas '16 had a 16-game point streak in 2015-16.
Skyler Brind'Amour (Raleigh, North Carolina) had a goal and an assist on the weekend while Nick Bochen (North Vancouver, British Columbia), Desi Burgart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) and Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) all added goals for the Bobcats.
