JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team used a dominant second quarter to seal a 68-56 victory over Saint Peter's on Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats were never tied or trailed in the 12-point victory.

The Bobcats outscored the Peacocks, 25-7 in the second frame behind 10 points from senior guard Chiara Bacchini. She finished the game with 10 points, setting a new career high. The Parma, Italy native was one of five Bobcats to eclipse the double-figure mark in points.

Junior guard Mackenzie DeWees led the charge offensively for the Bobcats, scoring 18 points in 37 minutes of action. The Westminster, Md. native was very efficient shooting the ball, hitting eight of her 12 shot attempts, including knocking down her only three-point attempt in the victory.

GAME SUMMARY

The Bobcats began the game on a 12-2 run leading up to the first quarter media timeout.
Saint Peter's came out of the media timeout and went on an 8-0 run to cut the QU lead to 12-10.
Quinnipiac scored the final five points of the first quarter to take a 17-12 lead into the second.
The Bobcats took control of the game in the second quarter as they outscored the Peacocks, 25-7 in the stanza, including closing out the frame on a 12-2 run to take a 42-19 lead into halftime.
Saint Peter's scored the first eight points of the second half to close its deficit to 42-27.
The Bobcats scored the next five points to extend their lead back to 20.
The two teams played back-and-forth for the rest of the quarter. The Bobcats held a 59-37 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Saint Peter's began the final frame on an 11-0 run, cutting the Bobcat lead to 59-48.
The Bobcats outscored Saint Peter's, 9-8 over the final five minutes of the game to seal the victory.

NUMBERS AND NOTES

The Bobcats outrebounded the Peacocks for the second straight game. QU won the battle on the boards, 42-40.
Quinnipiac posted their best shooting percentage of the season, shooting just over 42 percent in the win. It also tied its season high in made threes, knocking down seven from behind the arc.
In this two-game series, the Bobcats held the Peacocks to 39-for-136 (28 percent) from the floor.
The Bobcats played with the lead for 39:33 in the victory.
